Last year, I purchased my first DD and made a choice between the 18238 and 118238. I ended up going with the 118238 and have absolutely no regrets. In my opinion, the heft and feel of the 6 digit was worth the difference in price. Best of luck in your decision!

Considering I literally just got my grail watch delivered today, gold feels better (inside the heart & outside on the wrist) than SS. https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=901653

116619LB is a stunner. That blue dial is really special. Serious congrats

Here you go! (Sorry for the crappy pics)

The original owner kept this in a safe and it was in unpolished condition, so that’s why there is patina. It’s turning to a nice semi rose gold finish. Love it.

Thank you! R serial dating to 1988. Was my dad’s, and I always admired it. Now it’s mine, and it makes him happy to see me wearing it.

Edit: Fun fact - I believe the tapestry dial on the day-date from this era was the only dial without the minute track around the perimeter….only outside of the ‘special’ dials like lapis and onyx, that is.

Happy owner of the 18238 but go for the newer 11…. one.

The clasp alone is worth it imho, the earlier 11 series still use the old clasp. Skip those

If you do go with the 18238, I would definitely recommend that you do not polish the lugs. Keep it original. You say you’ll keep it forever but forever often changes…
I had the opportunity to choose between the two. I chose the 18238 over the 118238 mainly because of the brushed lugs. The brushed lugs on the 18238 looked more premium and real gold than the polished one on the 118238. Similar to mall watches in gold. To each his own I guess. So happy with my choice.

I would go w the earlier model too, brushed lugs look way better.

Had the 18238 but let it go earlier this year. If I buy another one, I will get the 118238. Having tried one on, just feels beefier on wrist and solid links and upgraded clasp make a big difference.

118238 vs 18238

Owned both but the 11 gets my vote, no brainer. This was mine, still regretting that I sold it…

Went with 18238 & been my daily since June.

I think this one works for me because even though it’s still loud in nature (being an all gold watch) this ref has (the aforementioned) qualities that make it sort of …. understated. And I really like that for the current environment I’m in, where a little stealth is nice sometimes.
