Daytona 116500LN after 1 year

I was extremely fortunate to get my white 116500LN as a 29th birthday gift from my wife last year. My wife managed to get it as a surprise from my AD. I figured I’d share my thoughts on the Daytona now that I’ve been able to enjoy it for just over a year.

After wearing the watch for over a year now I am still obsessed with it. My wrist is about 7.25”, the face is the perfect size. I realize some people complain about it being too small, but I don’t think so. The legibility is fantastic. I absolutely love the contrast of the black bezel, white face, and black subdials. This contrast gives the watch a lot of wrist presence without having to be flashy. The ceramic bezel and black subdials also sets it apart from the non ceramic Daytona. While I love my 116520, it just doesn’t compare.

The Daytona is very comfortable but not as comfortable as my DJ41. I think that is because mu dj41 has a jubilee bracelet. It gets slightly more wrist time than my green sub and DJ41. It gets much more wrist time than my 116520.

It goes very well with pretty much any sort of attire, ranging from shorts and a T shirt to a suit. I feel like it serves a great mid point in my collection as my green sub can’t really be worn with anything more than casual attire and my DJ41 may be a bit too flashy at times.

As far as durability is concerned, the ceramic bezel is fantastic. I don’t baby my watches, but I also don’t beat them up. The oyster bracelet with PCL is just like any other. Scratches are showing up especially on the clasp.

Overall, the watch is amazing. Only thing I can think of that could be improved is the Lume, but I feel like that about all Rolex models.

Enjoy the pics!

Glad to see you’re enjoying it. I got my black dial 116500 nine months after asking for it in November of 2019. Coincidentally it came in the night before I was leaving for a NYC vacation. I went in and had it sized, took the box and papers home, and the watch was then shipped to my hotel two days later so it will always have a story/memory.
I am returning to the City for the first time since in a couple of weeks and of course the Daytona will be on my wrist. It is in regular rotation, usually worn at least three days a week. Incredibly accurate and as rugged as any other Rolex Professional.
Wear it in good health.

Great story and glad to see you love your 116500LN! I have the black dial since 2018 and it’s my daily beater! I absolutely love it and wearing it on a super jubilee bracelet that i find much more comfortable than the original oyster bracelet.

Nice lumeshot!

Wonderful write up! I have had my black dial for 3 years now and echo your comments.

I’ll add that I am still completely obsessed with the watch 3 years later. I wear it everyday, unless I am wearing my gold GMT

I have added a oysterflex and super jubilee in addition to the stock oyster bracelet. Having these 3 options makes the watch truly feel like 3 different watches. The stock oyster bracelet is actually my least favorite of the 3.

IMHO, the 116500 fully earns the hype it gets. It’s by far the best SS Rolex makes (maybe best ever made).

I'm with you. I've had my black dial for a year and soon after acquiring it, put it on a rubber B. its a different watch now and love the stealth factor of being on rubber.

I'd like to see some photos of the bracelet, as I am interested to see the scratches, etc.
Can you post some of the bracelet and clasp that shows the wear?
Thanks!

The lighting makes it look worse than it actually is. I wear it a lot and have done many outdoor activities with it including hiking and beach trips.

I have the same wrist size and I agree with you about the perfect size. I've owned several Daytona's and have always felt they are a perfect size for me. I've owned my white dial 116500 since 2017 and I'm completely obsessed with it. I find myself giving too much thought as to where I am going to wear it lol...

Agree also. I also have had the white and black dial for about a year. White dial has been on the wrist for about 10 months, 2 for the black dial. The white dial just gives me that happy feeling, black more serious.

Great story and happy to see mates wearing them.

I find legibility to be poor at night, especially if it doesn’t “charge” during the day.

Here is the clasp on mine after 3 years of frequent use. Really not bad imho

Rolex could have done a better job on the sub dials they look cheap.
