5740 availability

Does anyone have any idea how hard it is to get a 5740 from AD? I'm wondering how long a wait might be considering the price point. Any thoughts appreciated. Thanks.

Your looking for someone to hand you 75k, you’ll have a better chance else where, Jewellery stores are in business to make money

My AD who has looked after me very well over the years (5711/1a + 5980/1r + 5231J amongst others) and will put my name down genuinely, on every watch in the range, told me that the 5740 is a nightmare. I'm down on the list but he said it could 7-8 years.

More pertinently he said he has one customer who has taken 29 new Patek's from him and they still can't get him a watch in a sensible time.
Mind you, this is London, UK which may be one of the hardest places in the world to get the PP you want at list.

The markup on the secondary is about $30K, not $75K.....

One a year per AD I was told so expect a long wait, it’s a beautiful watch and you never know you might hit lucky

You are saying they are going for 170 on the secondary market?

$162K and I assume there is some room for negotiation a bit lower so just under a $30K premium.

My Patek AD says they're allocated one per year per store.... And the hunger for the watch is real. I've made my intentions known since it was released and I waited about a year.

Ya I would say they sell more so in the $145-150 range. HQMilton had one listed for $152 a couple months back. I inquired and he was willing to come down to $149. He has since removed the for sale posting on VRF as well as his website (neither say it sold).

The one listed on HQMilton was a used like new watch.

5740/1g is really difficult to get one but secondary market price has so little premium on it, sort of contradicted. Sometimes it's not worth the troublesome and bundling with your AD. I think going grey is not a bad move. 150k is not bad at all if you get new.

You want to trade me an allocation of a 5726 and 5990 for a 5740 allocation

If you can get it for 162k, go for it. If you have to spend 100k to build relationship with an AD, it is cheaper to buy grey.

I wait about 18 months for mine and it is a sweet watch. It has all the function I want. I alternate it with my AP RO Perpetual calendar.

given the high price tag I assume this is not your 1st PP. Did you always buy grey before? If it's your first PP and you have 0 relationship with an AD that carries maybe Rolex (assuming you bought other watches like Rolex at this AD) and PP then going grey will be your only chance...

Secondary prices are all over the place, most of the dealers don't have it

I asked my AD for an allocation and he told me it's impossible for me. He said there are many MR, SS and Celestial owners who still haven't gotten their 5740.

I was deservedly humbled, and decided to go for the blue 5327 instead (saving up at the moment).

Great watch but unless retail would rather hunt for a 5970.

Completely agree.

Prevailing market prices means it's close to 5070p territory (and certainly 5970) as well, and at the end of the day, it's still just a mere Nautilus.

If I need a blue Dial for £150k - I'm getting a 5070p.

From what I know

NYC/HK/LA/London/Emirates and Middle East/Thailand/Singapore will all be a complete zoo to get what you want.

My guess, and this is just a guess, that smaller family-owned dealers in smaller cities will be better. But remember - even these guys are absolutely sick of getting 30 calls a day for a 5711 so it helps that you're a local and you're patient, and you go in and see them etc..

I'd love to get one, but also told it would take some time from my AD but not impossible. I thought about trading my 5711 and 5726 to be able to get it financially, but then would likely not be in a good standing to get it anymore with my dealer.

An AD telling anyone that a Nautilus will "take some time to get" is like saying "water is wet."

Which one is harder to get from an AD - 5740 or enamel dial WT? My guess is the 5740 has a longer wait list.

Yes but the 5231J is produced in much much smaller numbers and comes with an application for it (at least here in the UK)

That's likely correct because the 5740/1G wait list is cluttered with people hoping to be able to flip.

Whereas the 5131/1P or 5231J is an application piece, so there really isn't a "wait list" per se.

It's easier to get than the 5711.
The blue dial rocks.
