Wow where did all the Panerai guys and girls go? Awesome watch I love mine although I hardly ever wear it. MSRP is $3400 USD Its still being made for the J series but who knows!

I agree with Mike. Great watch, but I rarely wear mine either. ( a few others to choose from)
These are considered the "entry level" Panerai, but are very popular in the Panerai Community.
Only two models with the LOGO on the dial. the 000 and the 005

Has painted dial, solid back crown guard.
Having no second hand dial, this style is referred to as "BASE"
Mine keeps great time, looks & feels great.

The 000 is a great watch, reliable movement, solid back and just screams pure Panerai. I like the 000 so much I have owned two and will own another eventually.

This is an awesome watch. I loved wearing it and yes i agree that it really screams "panerai" becuase it has an almost vintage look to it as some of the old school panerai look exactly like it.

Also has great resale value when you decide to upgrade.

I think Panerai only make around 1000 per year... so its a very collectable, popular model.... you cant go wrong I'd say!

Design / size aside, what about the movements and quality wise?

Not sure that I would sell a SD for a 104 (or any PAM). A PAM would make a great addition to one's collection.

Firstly, its a decision only you can make... not everyone can afford/justify to have multiple watches worth the amount these are. Ideally having both would be the way to go...... or team the 104 up with a Seiko Samurai or Black Monster etc

If your after a different look, then the 104 will definitely achieve that. I find the most fun in Panerai ownership is the strap changes, a different strap gives you a new watch! They are incredibly unique looking and I find that heaps of fun!

One thing that does bug me is that I do feel the PAM005 I own does mark easily, ie I've got lots of tiny scuffs and scratches on it from everyday wear. This bothers some people lots and others like this quality as they believe it adds character. Bare in mind the Panerai is a BIG watch, you'll bang it on things you've never banged your SD on... goes with the size.

EDIT - I should also point out that I seem to be the only one that complains about marks.. so maybe i have unrealistic expectations? OR I'm one of the minority on forums that owns only 1 luxury watch that I wear exclusively - meaning mine has the same amount of wear that many other people never obtain cos they have 6+ watches/Panerais.

Also with my opinion on the wear aspect, this is really the first expensive item of this nature I've ever owned. I had a Rolex GMT Master 2 for about 6 weeks and never marked that but I never felt comfortable wearing it. The Panerai I live in I cant take it off!

Movement wise, honestly I am not educated enough to comment on this, however, from the year I've been following the brand on various forums I really dont see people complaining about the PAM104 at all or returning them for warranty issues.

I'd never sell the 005.. I LOVE it warts an all!

the pam 104 uses the valjoux 7750 automatic movement ...am not too sure what panerai did to the movement....it's a workhorse and very dependable....



case is 44mm in dia so it looks bigger and wears bigger on the wrist than the sd...the 104 is wr to 1000ft while the sd is rated to 4000 ft....both more than sufficient for watersports and scuba diving....

there is nothing more to say about the 3135 movement in the sd except its excellent timekeeping and robustness....

list price for sd is sgd7711 and for pam 104 is sgd7220.....

000 base is an awesome model, no one mentioned to you that it is a manual wind, i have had 2 manual wind watches and love winding them!!!! its a fun ritual! if your looking for a preowned one, check timezone.com....make sure you know who your buying the watch from.
