Expertise being sought

It is great to read all of your knowledgeable opinions on all things Rolex, and I am looking for some advice.

I recently fell in love with the Rolex Explorer I during a visit to my authorized dealer. This would be my first high end time piece, and I love the Explorer for it's versatility, and subdued styling for my line of work.

My questions is, is it worth trying to negotiate with an authorized dealer? I've never purchased a timepiece that cost over $600, but I'm seeing a lot of "You're a sucker if you pay retail" on the internet.

I don't know the demand of this particular watch, but what should I expect to pay before tax on a Rolex Explorer 214270. Thanks in advance for the help!

Welcome aboard

It never hurts to ask for a discount and on some models, especially PM it’s almost a given. Professional series are less likely to be discounted. A compromise is to ask if they’ll throw in the sales tax ... which I guess is like asking for a discount

Welcome. I would have a discussion with the AD and ask for a discount. They can only say yes or no. I would make sure they know you are ready to make the purchase on the spot. If they say no, ask what they can do for you with Rolex merchandise. Great watch selection. I look forward to seeing an incoming thread.

$ 5800 all in seems like a very good deal. Is that used or NIB ? No way you could get there from a Minn AD .
