Well many are not. Lots of revenue not received. This tactic will not make their DJs etc. more desirable.

That's the Crux. Your not asking to mary someone's daughter. Youre willing to spend a significant amount of money on an object. It is not like you spend serious amounts of time at the AD, or whether their opinion of you impacts your real life.
If Rolex wants me to buy so many other watches (that I don't want) and write letters of motivation before they consent to take my money after a long wait, I am not dealing with them.

Wait, I *am* not dealing with them. Grey and used market suits me fine. And there are other brands.

supply and demand i guess ,,, although there must be a point where it gets a bit silly, after all they are not hewn out of a block of unobtanium by pixies.

There are Breitlings, Tag Heuers and Omegas for those who want to have their watch right away... and that leads to situation that for example i was offered new Breitlings with 40% discount. Did not buy a single one as it is still like buying a new Bentley :D

Yes indeed

its funny and sad at the same time.

It gets dangerous for Rolex when people stop going to AD's at all because they already know nothing is there. At least now people sometimes go in for a sub thinking one might be there, can't find one and walk out with a DJ. It happens and i have seen it more than once.

This has been the rub I think, Rolex were probably hoping many frustrated sports buyers would switch to DJs but they haven't, they have just decided to wait longer and the market's gotten more skewed, and that also has made their reactions seem very slow. But now I think they accept most will not switch and so we have these new official AD policies while hopefully behind the scenes they are making different production allocations to suit this new market.

I love Rolex and Porsche but the Rolex holds value much better. I know you can't drive a watch but, you also can't wear a Porsche.

I've had both and the Vette is so much of a better car, there's no comparison. Pony car vs. true sports car.

Yes, the AD should pamper and contact me as I am the client..not the other way around. A very exotic situation indeed.
