No love for AP

Got both 15400st blk + 26400io just over a year and not as excited wearing them as I did few months ago. Thinking to sell but will be left with 0 AP.

Should I do it?

*I'm more interested in wearing my 1815 chrono & 5726. Maybe I'm done with BIG watches

Can you quantify why you don't enjoy wearing them any longer? Might be a phase...

Shift one now and, if you’re still not thrilled by the remaining one, move on from AP.

Personally, I’ve gone the other way. I’m waiting for a 5726, but other than that, I only have eyes for AP...and they get most of my wrist time

26400 - i find it oversized for my wrist
15400 - no reason and like you say, maybe a phase...

There’s a saying which may describe what you’re going through, which I’ve mentioned previously (probably more than once) — ‘familiarity breeds contempt’.
Whether you’ll restore your interest at some point or simply continue to be less enthused and likely to leave them in the watch box, is open to debate.
Assuming you’re not going to put yourself into any financial hardship over their depreciated value, if sold, then maybe that’s what should you do.
At that point, sit back and see how you get on with what you’ve still got, before deciding what else you might fancy.

Totally been there, thank god I didnt waste any money on the 15400 as I pictured I was gonna get there (where you are now) one day. 44mm I still cannot not love them, I have small wrist like 16-17, but it surely stands out in a very good way. Everyone I meet praise for it.

It is suppose to be a fun hobby, if it is not, make it fun. Simple as that.

Don’t get me wrong, 15400 is a nice watch and I even got a leather strap to wear during winter season. But lately they just don’t turn me on the same way as ALS & PP.

Well put!

I would let em go. You will do fine whereas a year or two ago you would have been out 3-5k on each. Be glad!

I'm on the same boat. I am flipping my Ti ROO for an Aquanaut Travel Time. I wouldn't say I've lost love for AP but the ROO, which I think is still a very cool watch, doesn't fit my style. I am, however, definitely picking up 15202 if and when it becomes available. I will miss it for sure but I think I will like the 5164 more.

I went through a dozen Offshores in the last decade of collecting. Once I picked up the 15202, the love for me was lost for almost every other AP. There isn't a single AP on my want list at the moment (the ceramic Diver is a "maybe" down the list), so I know how it feels.

The fun of watch collecting is buying what you will actually enjoy wearing. I've almost purchased multiple pateks and love the brand and the look on the internet but in person they do nothing for me and wear too small. AP sings to me so thats what I enjoy wearing and collecting.

i would keep the 15400. The offshore i tend to agree if you are over it, then its over. The RO IMO might just become interesting again if you give it some time.

I’ll be honest after picking up the 15407st the 26400 hasn’t got a look in!

Currently rotating between my 116600 as my daily and the 15407st in the evenings and weekends, everything else is collecting dust in the safe.

I'd be concerned as to what safe you are using if dust is collecting...Are there holes in it? :)

The intensity of the "love" for my watches comes and goes depending on my mood. So if I feel I am getting "bored" with a watch, I will still keep them around until I am sure I don't love them anymore before I will let them go, which usually means no wrist time for 6 months or longer. Even that, there are some I regret selling and may even end up buying them back. One of them happen to be the 15400 silver.

Having a large collection helps to keep things "fresh" and actually reduce flipping for me.

For me some watches I only enjoy wearing certain times of the year or during certain times only...

For example my AP Diver ( now sold) I would only enjoying in hot weather days... same for any of my watches on a rubber strap for that matter.

My Patek 5164 ... only when I am travelling...

Point is mood and needs change.... best to hold on or only sell on AP first... see how you feel ... if really no love for your AP, then sell and move on to other brands!

Hmm...so it might not be such a bad idea to hold on to them for a few more months, or 6 months like you say and see if the chemistry is still there.

actually, I’m not flipping for other pieces @ the moment but consolidating my collection down to 2-3 that I will keep for next 10 years. In a way, less is more.

I get the more intricacy of Patek and Lange can make the sportier watches seem less ornate, so I'd try on a 15202 which is more in line with your new thinking.

If you don't like them any more, send them out the door! Simple as that.

I tried 15202 couple years ago and it didn’t do anything for me. I find it a bit small and doesn’t have a seconds hand. Also not a fan of that blue dial and would prefer the blue from Nautilus...world difference imo.

You mentioned You had a leather strap for your 15400. Was wondering where you got the leather strap and the tang buckle with it?

I would double down, trade them both up to a 15202OR, will fit you better, more elegant and dressy which is the way you seem to be going with your other watches.

If you're not enjoying, then sell. Your move won't make sense to many on this sub-forum, but the hobby is yours. I did the same thing w hot Rolex models and feel zero regrets.

I went through a similar phase although it was with offshores. I had the 24600, then flipped it and went to the ceramic and Ti 44mm’s. I have a small wrist but never took notice of the overhang until I tried on a Royal Oak. You’re probably going through a similar phase although with different models. My suggestion is to get rid of the 44mm first, keep one AP around and see if it sings out. Move on from there.
