Who uses their GMT function and how?

I've always wondered if people actually use their GMT who AREN'T regular travellers. Is it more of a pain to adjust two time zones for clock changes etc. than it's worth? What other time zones do you track? I've genuinely intrigued. My only friend to own a GMT uses his to track his family's time in Switzerland... Only being an hour different from the UK I find it a little pointless! That being said, they are beautiful and I wish I had an excuse to get a BLNR!

All my appointments are made in GMT format, or military time if you will, so I just set it to my local time and adjust the bezel if I travel to the west coast

Hmm ... That makes sense. Also - do people in the UK have much use for the GMT hand seeing as we are on GMT anyway?

At the moment my wife is in Asia so it's very useful. Otherwise I set it to Pacific time for work.

Air traffic controller. Use it every day! Main time is set to local, gmt is set to utc, and I just rotate the bezel for time zone changes when I travel.

Sounds like you guys in the states have a lot more use for these things with your oversized country and different time zones ;) I fly to NY and Chicago about once every two months but that doesn't seem quite like a good enough excuse to get one haha.

When I had my GMT I found it useful despite being in the UK. I set the watch to local time and then the GMT hand to the US as I had a big US client at the time that I spoke to several times a week.

Not exactly it's intended purpose, but very useful nonetheless.

Ah that's true actually! Unfortunately I think most of my clients will be Europe based when I start my new job but that's a good point.

I live in France, and the dear French usually refer to the time by 24 hours (shop closes at 20h30, etc). I also use it when I travel.

As an aside.....I have no use for a chronograph, and more often than not I know what day it is....so it's the only complication that's useful to me.

Had offices in Asia so I used it every day when we had conference calls to see their local time.

I have a BLNR, I have no idea how to use the GMT function. Part of me thinks I should have bought a Hulk. But I'm saving up for it in any case.

When in Oregon, I set the GMT hand for Europe where we have close friends. We also have family in the UK. When overseas, I set the GMT hand for west coast time so I don't wake up our daughter in LA any more than necessary.....:-)

HAha cheers for all the responses. I think as long as I stick in the UK I don't really have an excuse but judging from you guys in the states I'll have a great one if my job ever moves there. Love how only one person is using this for an airplane related function

I travel outside of my time zone once every few years. a 1hr drive is traveling for me and I own a GMT.

I set the GMT hand to military time- which frankly is pointless since I'm used to it at work. if I ever do travel outside of my time zone, I'll actually use it properly.

The bezel I use for timing things- cooking, parking, etc- this is more useful to me than the GMT hand.

But when a watch looks this good, c'mon... go ahead and get it!

I didn't realise you could use it for timing things but I totally agree with the second point!

I use mine to keep track of other time zones by setting the hands.

GMT rules my working world. Airline pilot. I set the 24 hour hand to GMT and use it daily when at work. On international trips I spin the bezel to indicate local time via the GMT hand on overnights. I don't see the point in setting the quickset hour hand for short stays abroad.

I travel frequently, but i keep the GMT hand synchronized to "home" time, then I use the bezel to track overseas time zones (China +16 & UK +8) because I have daily contact with people in those time zones.

When I travel I set the bezel to zero (the triangle) to track "home" time and advance or retreat the hour hand as needed to match the "local" time zone.

I just use mine as intended it is set to home time when home and when I travel I just move the official hands, it is a simple but effective device.

This... except domestic corporate pilot.

24-hour hand always to GMT (Zulu), leave the bezel alone, and quicket the hour hand for time zone changes.

You know that you're not obliged to set the second time zone to GMT, right? :-)

I'm in the UK and use my GMT function to show the time in NY. My boss and many colleagues are in NY and so it is really useful to have both time zones at a glance.

There are several YouTube videos explaining how to use the GMT function (along with tutorials on how to use the Daytona's tachymeter, etc.). Check them out...very helpful.

[Edit: Looks like Daryl posted a link.]
