Authentic 1972 Oyster Perpetual?

I came across a 1973 Oyster Perpetual Rolex for a little under $2,000. I had some questions regarding what a good price would be for a watch this old and with some heavy bracelet stretching.

My friend said he thought the band was a fake, but the seller believed it authentic, I had a hard time deciding. This will be my first Rolex so I appreciate your help.

Rack up some more posts, then post a normal image in one of the normal ways, and you might get some help with your question.

I uploaded pictures not set as an attachment. If you need any other information or pictures, I can supply closer pictures of whatever you need. I looked on eBay for 1972 and 1973 models, but I cannot quite see if there is any difference in the photos.

Sorry for not including the photos properly earlier.

Bracelet looks OK, but the dial has been re-done.
If you are after an original example, I'd keep looking. YMMV...

Thank you so much. I wasn't even thinking of the dial having any work done; did not even cross my mind!

I may just pop into the Rolex store, and buy a new one instead of going down the grey market route.

As a historian, I have to admit older pieces have always struck me as being more interesting than a new model, but I don't have the knowledge like you gentleman do.
