Are official Rolex dealers allowed to sell over sticker?

I think this practice is BS. My dealer whom I have purchased a freaking ton from is now all the sudden charging over sticker for all the hot pieces. This is extremely annoying to me. Are you guys having a similar experience at your local dealer.

I fear the wording of the question will skew the poll results.

If this is in the US then they run the risk of having their AD status pulled if news gets to Rolex headquarters.

I’m pretty sure they aren’t allowed ask over MSRP in the U.S.

Dealers can charge what they want, no poll is going to change that.

sure but then they just become a trusted seller imo. no advantage to paying a premium at the ad.

You say “dealer,” but is this an Authorized Dealer? You can check on Rolex.com. As said, I’ve never heard of an AD in the US charging above MSRP.

Interesting question. I can’t imagine any of my ADs selling over retail... I would not shop there anymore...

The AD is allowed to sell their stock for whatever they want to. And Rolex is free to stop providing them with stock to sell.

Allowed by who? Yes it’s legal for them to do so. Yes it happens. No Rolex doesn’t prefer this behavior to my knowledge.

Exactly.

Must be the word "suggested" that trips up some people.

Look Rolex states on there web it's a recommended price and not a retail price, so in theory any official AD could charge what they like.Much like Carlsberg states in there ads the best beer in the world Probably, that word {Probably}makes all the difference to get over advertising laws.

In the US, manufacturers are expressly forbidden by law from mandating the price at which retailers sell their items. That's why Rolex cannot, say, sue a dealer that discounts. However, there is no law stating that the manufacturer cannot sever the relationship at any time, for any reason.

My AD tries to “pair” hot pieces with a DJ or something, but would never charge over sticker.

In Singapore ADs are no longer allowed to sell over the retail price. Used to be norm for hot models until sometime last year I think. Rolex decided to clamp down and sent ADs a memo forbidding this practice. Of course now to get Daytona for eg was quoted that you have to spend somewhere in the region of 200K US$ in order to get one. So retail price rule adhered to but tactics change, of course.

I wonder how many or what % of the "Yes" responses are in the US.

I do not believe ADs are allowed to charge over MSRP, or at the minimum it is highly discouraged by Rolex.

I voted yes. Per what Padi said, MSRP is Manufacturer "Suggested" Retail Price. They set a standard and provide a baseline in the market. The AD has already purchased the watch from Rolex and technically can charge whatever they like. I get that Rolex prefer the ADs use MSRP......but it is a free market. Everyone is up in arms when an AD charges more for a hot/harder to allocate watch but also wants a discount whenever possible when buying. Come to gripes on reality please, it doesn't work both ways.

Exactly and don't Rolex USA watches already have the MSRP price sticker on the white plastic hang tag? I would love to hear a Rolex USA regional representative weigh in on this.

It’s not fair Ferrari and Lambo and other car dealership asking more than MSRP :). Life is not fair :)
