Watch Shells scratch protection

Since getting my ROO back serviced and polished I decided to try watch shells to help protect from scratches.
I do have a lot of wrist awareness and look after my watches so am not bothered about protecting the case sides and lugs even though the protectors come in the kit.
I applied the bezel protector last week and really it is virtually invisible.
I know many people are against these things and I have never used anything like it before but makes sense to me to protect the bezel and keep it looking mint in my opinion

had to google this... Im hoping it looks better in real life because on their website it looks quite bad, these are not what I would call "virtually invisible".

They’re not for me as I think it spoils the look of the watch. Keeping the watch in such pristine condition by sacrificing its appearance with a plastic cover isn’t worth it to me.

I can understand wanting to protect the bezel. The only thing I don’t like about these is they make brushed areas glossy due to the nature of the film, and will also trap dirt along the film’s edges. Over time, this dirt will act as an abrasive. Ever seen those Rolex watches people have worn with delivery stickers on for years and when they take it off it’s all marred underneath?

Not to mention, these truly don’t protect edges of the watch (bracelet/case edges), which leads to a false sense of protection imo. I like the concept as it’s similar to a clear bra on a car which I’m a full advocate of, but there is a much larger surface area and you can wrap the edges to prevent dirt from collecting.

Thanks for sharing OP. Always nice to see what they’re coming up product wise on the market for wristwatches.

They do indeed look awful in those pics except the one on the bezel top.
That’s the only one I used as like I said I am very wrist aware and never have scratched case sides or lugs on any watch in over 30 years.
I still believe the bezel is the most prone to small scratches and they would ruin the look of the watch far more in my opinion than the virtually invisible shell.
I know it’s there but nobody I’ve shown the watch too can even spot it when I ask them to look for it!

If really just concerned about the bezel, then why not just budget for a fresh bezel every 5 years or even every 1-2 years? Would only cost about 800 each time. I'd much rather do that than ruin the look of the watch.

How would you wash it after a week of sweat under the sun?

It would get disgusting very quickly

That’s true but it certainly doesn’t ruin the look of the watch.
I met 5 friends yesterday who are all in to watches and after looking at my watch none even noticed the bezel protector!

This is my only concern.
So far it’s only been on a week, worn daily and currently around 25C here.
Will see what happens but have just lightly wiped with microfibre and wrist clean spray as I’d usually do.
Time will tell!

I would argue that if no one notices the bezel protector (I would think your friends are being polite if they are WIS) then no one will notice the small marks that come with general wearing.

You will find the finish to be fairly robust at a macro level.

It will get some faint scratches and dings but they won’t affect how it looks aside from under close scrutiny/ direct lighting.

If you’re wiping clean with a damp microfibre I would be more concerned with adding marks around the edges of the protection where dirt will accumulate.

If you cannot afford the scratches, you are not ready for luxury watches.

What a load of rubbish!
What does wanting to keep your watch looking pristine and as scratch free as possible have to do with being not able to afford scratches?
I’ve been fortunate enough to be able to afford luxury watches for the last 30 years.
Totally senseless comment that isn’t needed or appreciated on a supposedly helpful and supportive forum

No Protection for Watches. I understand why a condom is necessary but a watch... NAH.

OK I'm the guy they made these for. Apologies to Padi in advance. I use a few different tapes from 3M or car bumper protection film etc and I've found a few that I like. I cut out a sticker and use them on the clasp and sometimes on the side.

IMO it IS invisible from 12" away unless you are looking for it. They start to peel at the edges in about a year. They don't get funk from sweat etc.

I'm OK with being called crazy but 15+ years later most of my watches can easily be classified as like new.

I just wrap cling film around my wrist and watch now each day before I go out. Nobody can tell unless they are within 20 feet of me.

ha ha.... this i dont understand.

Why would anyone want to, " keep your watch looking pristine and as scratch free ...." but cannot enjoy it because the "pristiness" is cover by a piece of plastic sheet ?

Anyway, no intent to "scratch" any ego here. To each its own. I meant my comment to be a joke anyway. Peace

I’d want to see it in the flesh before commenting. I’m not really bothered about scratches and don’t keep anything in good condition. But the ROO bezel does look amazing when pristine so why not keep it that way IF there is no compromise to the naked eye.

OP - as you’re convinced that the bezel protector isn’t noticeable, how about posting s few pictures from different angles. I’m sure that others are sceptical like me, so maybe pictures would change some minds.

I have tried but still can’t sort this posting pics problem that I seem to have on here.
I’ll wait until it’s been a few months and try again.
They claim you can take in the water and wash as normal with the protector on, I don’t know about that but so far after 2 weeks on there is no dirt build up around the edges, will update on that too

Why is ridiculous to want to keep a watch looking as good as possible and scratch free on the bezel, I hate scratches and they ruin the look of a watch in my opinion, I don’t agree with the used and battle scared view.
My Lotus Exige came from the factory with clear stickers to protect the susceptible rear arches from stone chips, seems the same idea to me
