Change in Tudor target age group

Just saw Tudor’s new Instagram featuring the collab with Alaïa Bay. To me it definitely solidified that Tudor is progressively shifting its marketing towards the younger crowd.

I actually liked the content in the promo vid. I even thought the promo boards were sweet. But when I think surfing, skateboards, snowboards, I think Nixon. Not Tudor.

Tudor is going from this

.
.
.
.

To this

It hasn’t changed my perception of Tudor, but I have a feeling the new moves may shake off some of its older fan base in hopes of gaining younger ones.

By the way, if you didn’t know what Alaïa Bay is,

https://alaiabay.ch/en/

How do you folks feel about the evolution of Tudor’s image?

Also in before “so chic”

If Tudor has references I like w/ features I use, I consider buying. The advertising has no influence in that decision.

I like it. Make more youthful timepieces.

Old people can afford a more reserved, or ultra-bling, Rolex :)

I like Tudor regardless of their advertising.

How old was Frank Barr, how old were the potential buyers at the time of that advertising.

I read that ad as ‘Frank Barr, Sausage Diver’

Time to visit the opticians I think, puts me out of the Tudor demographic!

This isn't that sort of site!!!

I can't think of a negative in Tudor going after a younger crowd as indicated by their ambassadors as well as their ads. Most older buyers don't want to be considered over the hill. Younger buyers don't either. It does remind me of a conversation by text the other day. A friend and recent first time Rolex buyer said he was going boarding. I asked which type as I've done, Skate, Surf, and Boogie in the past. Approaching my last birthday in the 60s I've got to ask is it safe to skateboard with a Rolex (or Tudor)? The water is a bit more forgiving on unplanned dismounts!!!

Is that a chick or a guy holding the Tudor board? Midriff paired with hairy arms and a rather masculine looking hand is really confusing me...

With Rolex so tough to get and Tudor at a much better price point, it makes sense to get to the younger crowd.

I don't think their target age group has changed. I just think the target age group remain children for much longer these days.

It’s definitely a great strategy as there has definitely been a big shift in younger folks interested in mechanical watches over the past years.

Also positions them well in total market coverage with Rolex targeting the more mature buyer and Tudor targeting the younger gen so there is less cannibalisation between the two sister brands.

Tudor GMT Red/Blue ,show me any watch on the market that beats it at the price point .Incredible value !

Age group is irrelevant.

Agreed. A true GMT movement in a 200m diving case? I am EXTREMELY tempted.

Yeah, I picked up on the whole age shift thing when I was looking at the new releases and happened to watch one of those videos on the site, you know, the kind where the guy talking is targeting about a 12 year old audience.

Hey, whatever works is my motto.

You looked far closer than I did!

As for the vintage picture I think he looks like a coffin dodger - so not current idea for marketing.

A true GMT with as good or better WR can be had from MIDO and Certina at a fraction of the cost of the Tudor GMT.

Although I do like the overall design of the Tudor GMT much better than the Certina or MIDO offerings, Swatch Group is making it so the days of having to spend $3-4K for a new, Swiss made, true GMT with good WR are over.

Given the price difference, and the Tudor date movement issue, and the fact that the Certina is only 12.60 mm in height, I'd probably buy the Certina and save $3K.

The Certina and MIDO are probably more appealing to the younger crowd anyway because the price is even better. With the entire Swatch Group list of brands that can use the Powermatic 80 GMT movement, I think Tudor is going to have competition for affordable true GMT watches from Longines, RADO, and others in the next few years.

They know what they’re doing. Sell them a Tudor today, and a Rolex tomorrow.

The times have evolved for better or worse, this is on par with all luxury brands today. Honestly, I’m in my 40s and feel like a dinosaur since all of the norms I valued are not even in the minds of today’s youth.

Agreed, but how you describe the Tudor GMT is how I’d describe the Pelagos.

Tudor is producing some interesting timepieces for sure.

Hahahahaha

I am glad to see the resounding approval. I do think it’s a great strategy by Tudor and also see it as a typical HWF company supporting local businesses!

What should be the appropriate age group for Tudor, as they make watches which cost several thousands of EUR, not something a person in their 20s can easily afford?

I think Tudor is a younger brand. Younger people cannot afford a Rolex, so Tudor's lower priced watches make sense to them
