Bracelet has a few hairline scratches

I probably won't worry about the scratches too much. I'll just keep wearing the watch as my beater.

I think it truly happens when I aquire a piece of more inherent value than the previous. I rarely wear my newly acquired PM GMT2 and this RO feels like the dog of the collection. It actually feels good to wear the RO with little regard to daily wear and tear

I couldn’t live with that, would have it polished asap
I always keep my watches looking virtually as new, my opinion is they looked at their best brand new and why would you want it to look any other way, not many people drive round in scratched up and beaten cars!

To keep a watch looking like new, while daily wearing it, is almost impossible without wrist anxiety and being over aware. You simply cannot enjoy a watch if you intend to keep it scratch free.

Scratch away IMO.

That is one good looking royal oak bracelet! I love ROs with a little bit of character and history. Thank you for sharing!

I don't see the point of paying for higher hand finishing level and then going off and refinishing it with laptops and countertops.

I'm not impressed, but it's yours to enjoy how you choose.

Generally speaking the bezel is in great condition.

There is one mark on the bezel that I wish I didn't have. It's near the bolt just above 1 o'clock. I'm usually pretty good about taking care not to hit the front of it but one night I went a little wild with the cocktails and must have touched the bezel against something. It's not a proper ding or even a deep scratch, It's more of just an interruption of the vertical brushing so it really stands out.

I'm not trying to impress anyone really. I don't see the point of paying for a watch and not actually wearing it. I was recently offered a very significant sum of cash to sell it so apparently it still has value. I just thought I'd share the pictures because a lot of people new to AP seem to wonder how the bracelets hold up to scratches. My answer to that is, it holds up. It still functions as a bracelet.

So this is an interesting point IMO.

I’ve always sort of been of the same view point. Yet, I admire those who throw caution to the wind I guess we are all different, but those scratches would be irksome to me on a piece with that level of finishing.

Good on you OP

From 4 feet away the thing still looks the business. It shines and glitters like a royal oak does. It's when you hold it to the light and look at the individual links you see the true condition. I hope one day it looks like the old A serial watches that look like they have some real history to them. I have other watches that don't see daily wear and are my scratchless watches.

Sorry but if I were your parents, I'd ground you and take the watch away.

Go to your room

I had an AP back around 2004 I wore everyday and beat the heck out of it. None of the polished edges were shiny. I kinda liked it that way. It’s just a watch. I can’t imagine babying something. Too many garage queen Ferraris and Rolex’s in safes. What’s the point? Life is short. Enjoy every moment

Don't think the RO was made to be a daily beater.

It's too beautiful and I can't take that level of scratches.

I need to find a daily beater that costs around 3k like a Tudor

My wife wears a Yachtmaster as her daily. The bracelet is hammered with scratches and I know how bad it is. Everytime I see it on her wrist from 2 feet away, it shines and sparkles as if it was new. I think as collectors we get too caught up and forget that 99% of people dont see watches the same as us. Sure we love these watches but the only way for me to prevent the scratches is to never wear it. Once I get to that point I'll just sell it for market value but until then I want to have it on my wrist.

Enjoy it and wear it and never look back! Scratches are inevitable and some even have some good memories behind them.

I remember years ago the day I got my first PM RO... later that same day I was moving furniture around one of my kid's bedrooms, so we would have better space on the floor for a new train set. I scratched the heck (not a gash but seriously major wide scratches) on the clasp area and surrounding links with my hand pulling on the underside of a bedside table. It bugged me like crazy for a few days and then I realized the memory behind it, of my son and I being together and playing, and now seeing those wide deep scratches brings a smile to my face and I will not polish it because of that memory.

Granted, a deep ding on a bezel would need fixing but day-to-day use is pretty much the only opportunity for creating good memories with a watch.

I hope I don't sound like an old man!

The bracelet is so beautiful that I can't bear to wear it and let it get scratched. I feel stressed wearing it.

My only way of knowing if I can afford to own these watches is if I can wear them and not fear that the value will decrease. Only when I beat it up do I know I can actually afford to own it. Otherwise I'm just buying it temporarily hoping the value has increased.

This is a great thread and kudos to the OP for wearing his watch as it is meant to be!

I totally agree that from a distance, it never looks as bad as it does when you shine light on it and take up close pictures. Rolex PCL bracelets are classic example of that and still look great despite a ton of wear.

I wear my 26315 regularly but its only a year old so does not look like that (but probably will at some point!).

Well, I use phone protector and screen protector for my iPhone and Macbook pro. It's just an individual preference to keep the items as pristine as possible. It's not a matter of being able to afford it or not.

It's a personal thing. It's not for everyone. I also don't have phone protector for neither of my galaxy flip or galaxy fold phones. I don't keep my vehicles in the garage, I put miles on them and that's how I enjoy them.

If I want another one that's not scratched I'll go buy another one. That's how I know I can afford it.

I'm interested in suggestions on how to keep my royal oak in tip top shape and wear it 10 hrs a day. How is everyone keeping their oaks completely scratch free while being their daily watch?

How about we start with not taking a belt grinder to it?
