Regrets

Can we hear about any watches you regret getting rid of, whether you sold or traded. Did you sell/trade for another watch. Let’s see some pics if you have any. For me, in 2008 I sold my Y series 116520, white dial. I did use the funds to buy a black dial 116520 but I wish I kept the Y series. Bought it used for $7k from my AD, at the time. It got traded in for a Milgauss GV. I know who ever traded it in, regrets getting rid of it too.

Are you talking about the GV? If so, back in 2008, the GV just came out. It was fetching $13K-$15k, so back then he thought it was a good idea. Obviously NOT! LOL!

Going thru some old pics, and found pics of the Daytona and service papers. I wonder what it cost today for the same service.

I regret asking my better half to pass on the 5711 at retail, he had just bought a 5712, a months before this came along.

Now can’t seem to get in at all now (he is still not over it )

I don’t regret any that I’ve sold (and I’ve sold a lot of watches that are worth a ton of cash now) as I’ve always had a reason for moving them on. I do regret some that I never bought back when they were easy to get, for example a 15202.

I regretted not buying 5 digit polar explorer in 2016 when it was less half of today's price!

No regrets, but I did let go of a few watches I liked a lot. The polar explorer II is an example. Or my Speedmaster. Traded both in for a VC 4500v, which in turn left the collection for another Lange, so no hard feelings whatsoever, but they were all great watches and I’m thankful I got to experience them.

I have no regrets selling because I usually do not sell my watches. How about regret purchasing a Rolex instead? I bought what I thought was a 16610LV many years ago from a local jeweler. It was a good deal at $5000 at the time well it was running great and everything but the jeweler didn’t know anything about the watch history so I brought it to my AD for evaluation and service. Turns out the watch was not a 16610LV but a standard 16610 with aftermarket parts including bezel, parts of the movement, dial, crown, etc. I was furious. I went back and demanded a refund but was refused. Jeweler claimed a “bought as is” and “all purchases final” policy. I had minimal income at the time so pursuing legal action was out of the question. I had it serviced and parts replaced at my expense and sold it at a loss. The experience put a sour taste in my mouth and I took a long break from Rolex.

Had I bought it from one the trusted sellers on here instead, I would still have a real LV Submariner today.

I regret to sell 116500LN in 2018 because of small scratch ( I am little bit OCD) and thought I could buy another one later. Of course it never happen now.

There were GMTs waiting to be purchased but no....... I went with an omega deville 41mm that doesn't fit me that well anyway...

Passed a Batman for JLC master control because they offered 30% discount on the JLC. Watch insides broked down 5yrs later, hefty repair bill.

I mean we often get rid of a watch for a reason. They hype surrounding the Daytona and other desirable SS sport models can cause anyone to second guess.

I move pretty slow to buy and sell, so I’m pretty happy with my decisions.

I’m not going to lie and say I don’t miss some of the watches I’ve sold, but there’s a reason why they didn’t last. I always try to keep that top of mind

No regrets. Watches come and go and in the abstract I miss certain watches but I can buy back anything I really want and sometimes do. I sometimes think the real regret is that some people are like they are and have regrets over decisions they made with the best information available at the time. And they feel the need to share it with others rather than rectifying the situation.

Back in 2008, I had a 16610lv that I purchased for $4200. Sold it a year later for the same $4200.

I also sold a 116710ln back in 2018 that I also regret parting with.

I guess, I’ve never sold a Rolex and not regretted it :-)

Generally I regret getting rid of everyone I sold as the values today are so high I’d have an awesome collection. The one that sticks out though was a 30 year old Datejust I bought from the forum from the original owner. He had the original receipt and all the paperwork showing that he paid something like $480 for it many years ago. He told me all kinds of stories about it including how it traveled the world with him and he lost in once on a flight to Germany abs never thought he’d see it again. It turned up in the mail back to him. That watch had some cool history!
