I sold my first Rolex for 4K . A 6 digit 36mm SS Datejust. White dial with Romans and a fluites bezel. I never wore it but I didn’t need the money. Was my first “sign of success” purchase so it was sentimental. I really regret selling my Sinn 856, my poor mans Explorer. I paid 1700 and sold it for 1k but I can’t justify buying it again Great beater watch

My passing on regrets. 1. Walked into a dealer I’ve never been to in 2019 and asked about SS sport models. Was offered a Seadweller 43mm with the red type. They told me 5 others had passed or didn’t answer. Was the first time I’ve ever seen the plastic coffin 2. Have recently passed twice on a white dial skyD while waiting on a blue dial. If I get the blue then good pass. If I don’t then it’s a mistake. I love this hobby.

Regrets

I regret selling this Daytona. I purchased it used, for a good price, but it had a small ding on the bezel and I really wanted to my first PM watch to be brand new so I sold it and ordered the RG 116505 with the black dial, only to really dislike how it looked in the sun and realize I preferred the watch I’d let go of for a song - in hindsight.

I’d like to purchase this one again, but

oh man. that RM tho... I wouldn't be able to sleep knowing I let go of such huge potential gain. that sucks so bad.

I am no fan of RM as a watch to wear but as an investment, man... almost a better investment than pretty much anything else that exists.

It'd be tough to swallow with a potential gain of 100k. But I guess I'll only look forward to virtual appreciation as I haven't let go of anything. Were you able to get another RM to replace in your collection?

The interesting part is it took MONTHS for the RM to sell back then, there just wasn't a lot of interest, especially in the rm005/rm010. At that time I was happy to sell it at all, it wasn't until a few months after that RM prices skyrocketed. The money was used towards an AP Jumbo and then option investments which worked out but I could have allocated from elsewhere.

I don't think any of us thought it would get THIS crazy, I knew prices would rise but never to this extent.

yea hindsight is hindsight. we gotta move on.

regarding RM, I suspect it is due to increased interest in this brand from rappers in their music videos. thus getting it more hyped. many rappers have moved on from AP as the 'in watch' to RM now.

but what you have gone through with your sale of RM is what I deal with also many, many times in my stock investing.

I had a couple of stocks that I sold 3 years ago that have gone up 10x since I sold. fuc.. $800k in profits gone. I still lose sleep over one such stock, to this day. but it is what it is.

Sold my dream watch, Z serial 16710BLRO, mint condition, box and papers, for what seemed like a great price of $6000 in 2014. Have regretted it every week since...

No regrets selling… only selling too early. Didn’t know the market would get this stupid and I could’ve gotten a lot more.

Traded my Smurf a couple years ago. I really kick myself for that bone headed move.

Oh yeah, there was the Patek 5711 stainless white dial at MSRP (~$24,000 in 2012). It was in the case in San Francisco when I stopped by after some business meetings. I could not reconcile how it was more expensive than my green dial YG GMT-C, at the time. At least it screamed in price.
Love the YG GMT with anniversary dial. I still can't fathom SS 5711 pricing and/or demand. IMO why wouldn't one buy a really nice 5146 or 5170 in PM at half the price of a 5711.

I let some beautiful pieces go (Daytona, Pepsi GMT, 14060M RRR etc.).... but the most I regret selling is my 118238 in June '20 -> I SHOULD NOT HAVE DONE THAT

My 1978 1675 GMT-Master was my first Rolex, and it had sentimental value. I regret selling it several years ago.

+100. I've only ever "sold" one, a 16570 traded straight up for my 124270. Probably left some money on the table, but bottom line I have a watch I prefer w/o any cash outlay.

Those I passed on/didn't pursue that I would have enjoyed:

1. Freshman year of college was walking through a mall jeweler and saw this really weird looking thing in the Omega case. It was a lingering Dynamic. Probably could have talked the down below $700 on it... Too much at the time.

2. That summer, visiting London, could have picked up a recently discontinued Zenith Rainbow Elite at a serious discount. Decided I didn't love it, though I'd always wanted a true manufacture watch. In retrospect, would have been awesome to. have.

3. Until getting the 124270, I always sort of regretted getting the 16570 instead of the 114270 (which I loved for its simplicity).

4. Right after getting my 16570 I saw a post on here of a guy who'd found a dealer with several NOS 14000 in stock, going at a good price. Had I saved the $1,000 between the Exp. II and Exp. I, I'd probably have pursued a white dial one.

Those I passed on that would have been good "investments" later on:

1. When I was looking for my PP 5065 I walked into a Tiffany in San Diego and they had a Tiffany stamped Nautilus (whatever the current generation was in 2004). Preferred the Aquanaut and thought it was a little silly to have the Tiffany dial, so thought little of it.

2. Back in '09, looking for first Rolex, AD in Southern California basically told me I could have either color stainless Daytona and that both were sitting in the safe, available at MSRP. Didn't really want to spend $9,000 on a watch I didn't love. Ha! That's right, a Daytona from an AD for nine grand !
