Am I crazy to flip 2 Rolexes to buy this?

i would daily the pants off of that 1815 with casual wear on a variety of straps; its a stunner, imo. i would definitely considering the trade but have the same hard time deciding what to give up. 1815 over L1 for me tho. It's versatile.

This is WISdom that I should print over my door. It's valid when considering buying a Lange or other haute horological heirloom.

Because all my watches are in the basement of a bank I no longer see them. I know I used to believe that each successive one was the last, but I can't remember what some of them are. This week, I finally stopped trying to rewind my SD43 everyday and dropped it off for service.

Meanwhile I am wearing a PP on a strap. I had forgotten what it was like. Even though it's a bottom tier casual PP, it's still more a board room watch than I realized. Eating dinner tonight I got duck grease dribbling down my wrists so my watchband now smells like leftover roast duck. My Rolexes didn't mind getting hydrogen peroxide showers once a week--I'm a germ and odor freak--but the PP would probably disintegrate.

Langes and such are refined watches. I love Rolex, but winding the crown feels like twisting an eraser. Wind the crown of any Lange and you sense every tiny click. The joy you feel is a tribute to exceptional craftsmanship. But the price you will pay for being able to enjoy that is much more than the initial cost of the watch.
