What are your thoughts on NOS?
5-digit always carries a hefty price tag.. we all know that, but more I dig into the world of Rolex, the more I am attracted to the old references. Since we all can't purchase this from any ADs, NOS is the only option for those who want to enjoy the experience of peeling off the stickers and bang around with your history on the watch.
Am I too crazy to buy these 2 watches? 14060M NoDate Sub G-series - $16.5K 114270 V-series - $15K |

Yes you are crazy - NOS in my opinion are investment quality pieces. If you buy them leave them as that.
The pieces I buy I wear so it would destroy the value to remove those stickers and get them all scratched up. You are essentially paying a significant premium to remove some stickers...

I always thought I was a brand new, AD only guy - until I went to a great vintage dealer. I’ve instantly become much more interested in 5 digits especially (I know they’re not vintage). They’re the watches I grew up around and there’s none of the waiting list nonsense.
I told the guy what I was looking for and he found me a 95% condition 16610 from 2010. I get all the benefits of “almost NOS” without having to pay for them. It had a few very tiny marks which were barely noticeable. Personally I think the mint conditions are the ones to go for but I would see the appeal of NOS if I had the money for it. |

You can imagine these as share certificates, not really for wearing

I’ve been wearing my 5-digits more and more recently but would not pay that kind of cash for NOS. I have both of the watches you listed and the 114270 is now at RSC for a full service. Other than peeling off the green sticker which I’ve done when I’ve first purchased them, it should be good as new when I get it back in a few weeks!

Looking for a late serial 16610LN myself, doesnt need to be NOS ,just complete with box and papers .114060 as well .
One of my favourite wearers is a 16613 blue ,just wears well and has a classic look ...and I love the Blue TT Subs. What gives you the most kick, isn't always the most expensive or the rarest or the one that everybody wants or the one with the best "return on investment ". Food for the soul lasts a lifetime . |

David, if you want to peel stickers, get OP41 in funky color and get the other NOS watches you mentioned as investment (though I would recommend investing in other commodities). If you really enjoy peeling, there are some games in the app store...

NOS only if you are a collector wanting to keep these as safe queens.
Something is only new until it isn't. The premium for NOS is not worth my money if it's going to be a user. I collect (and use) vintage cameras. I can't believe the price for NOS Leicas. |

I'd rather not buy something that has just sat around for 10 years. Take the SD4K
I really regret not biting. Now I would buy a well looked after one vs a NOS. Don't know why, not sure the rationale. Just seems odd to have a watch sit there doing nothing for a very long period of time. I.e. > recommended service interval |

1. If it is legit new old stock that is fine just be aware that the second you take the stickers off the "value" significantly decreases if you care about such things. It wouldn't bother me really. 2. I have seen several watches advertised as "new old stock" and they clearly are just watches that had the stickers kept on them and were worn. Things like tattered, ripped, or peeling stickers or stickers with dirt and grime under them does not a "new old stock" watch make. |

New Old Stock on five digits is an odd arena in that they are quite pricey simply because they are time capsules. If you intend to wear a true NOS watch, you are rich or nuts in that taking the stickers off make no longer NOS and worth 10-25% less than a mint, but NOS, example.
Just get what you want with box/papers and wear it v. playing peel off some shitty plastic stickers for 5 grand. |

If "vintage" I would be fine with a quality piece. Doesn't have to be NOS.

I received a NOS factory stickered full set Milgauss. I don not really want to wear it, but as it was a gift I will just hang onto it. Too sentimental to divest myself of it.

If you're going to daily wear them, then buy used examples in good condition. No sense in spending thousands more for NOS pieces just to "bang around" in them.

I saw (tempted, passed) a NOS 14060M a few months ago here for $13K I believe. They will both drop 50% in value once you put them on, and continue to drop as you wear them and get the, um, patina. And they'll both likely need a service soon, and you just know that the RSC will polish and ruin them. Unless you're OK with that, just go buy a nice used example.

NOS too pricey. Get the model you want in mint condition, instead.

If I had the money I’d buy a 16600 nos and wear it everyday! The new ceramic versions do nothing for me, the closest I can get is a 58.

Paying a watch for a watch that is still in production is crazy. Paying a premium for a discontinued watch which value is going no where but up with the passing of the years is not crazy at all. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

That's a lot of money to peel off stickers.
Why not just buy some fruit and go to town on those stickers? Save you a few grand...

I agree, and that's a lot to pay to just dump in a safe for decades. If you're an investor, makes sense over the decades. They will rise in value in that configuration over decades.
But for buying and wearing, I'd much rather find the best condition and price I can afford for purchase and just enjoy. |
