Any red flags on this 1675?
I have another thread debating this 1675 vs. the 16700 in the main forum. But wanted to turn to the vintage experts on the authenticity.
Photo of watch is attached. Any red flags? It's a 4.7m serial. Main thing is the dial. Is this correct for the serial? It looks like a Mark 6 to me, so I'm thinking it might be a service dial |

Not necessarily. It's possible that this came straight out of an RSC.

service heavy, but that's probably why it's priced $13-$14k vs. closer to $20k for a nice 1675 from a dealer.

Contrary to some of the comments, I would say the watch is 100% correct. It is a service case, service dial, hands and insert. What's not to like? A complete service 1675 is something you don't see very often.

What’s not to like is how the watch was born…..was it a gilt dial 1675? Mark1? Mark2? Who in the world knows……..for a cheap price it’s cool…13-14 ummm no

I agree, although I might value it as high as $10k given the general increase in value for all vintage and pre-owned Rolex watches these days. Let's not forget that $9k is real money and we shouldn't conflate the value of pieces like this with those whose value is high because they are collectible objects.
Personally, if I'm choosing between this and a nice original 1990s sapphire-tritium GMT, I'm buying the latter.

Having just pulled the trigger on one, I can say that there are some great websites out there for analyzing these, which proves invaluable in my search. Creating this thread, reading the feedback, and then seeing some of the offerings from supposedly reputable dealers made me realize how much of a minefield the vintage market really is.
I think yours looks pretty good. That looks like a Mark 1 “Long E” dial, same as the one I just bought. I’d find out the serial to make sure it’s the right range (1.6-2.9m). I think it’s the right bezel — are you ok with the damage to the right side of it? The GMT and second hand look like they have been replaced also. |
