The T&Co is a nice touch. Sort of 'the cherry on top'.

i tried it on today too.... loved it. (tho not the tiffany one!)
its only the 2nd patek ive ever tried on - and the other was the nautilus
im slowly learning about the brand, heritage, options and complications....

as a relative new comer to brand and - without wanting to come accross wrong - can i ask - is the only difference between the 5227 and the 5711/1a, infact the case? i.e., the same movement is used both for sports and dress? does anyone vouch for it being better suited to one or the other please??

They're trickling in now, picked mine up last week.

I tend to wear my Pateks for casual or dress, so I can't comment on its suitability for sport use. That said, the 5227 is IMO a dress watch, while the Nautilus is versatile and can be worn for any occasion.

I have 5127R too and I am very happy with it and I am not jealous at all of 5227 owners. I like 5227 very much but you paid at least $5K less for a very similar watch. Now you can use this extra cash for your next purchase.

I prefer the 5127 except for the officer's caseback.

5711 vs. 5227

Scrimps -- as far as I can tell current production of both the 5711 and 5227 share the exact same movement which is the 324 S C. The only exception being that the older 5711s house the 315 S C which is the predecessor to the 324 S C movement.

I agree with others' posts that the 5711 absolutely works as a sports watch and more versatile of the two. Having both the 5227G and 5711A in rotation I've found that the 5227G, while a traditional dress watch by design, is a very subdued piece that flies far under the radar compared to the 5711A. The 5711A attracts a lot more attention because of the case shape, contrast between the hands, dial and case, the ridges on the dial, thin profile (maybe) and fact that the polished steel, hands and markers seem to reflect light more than the 5227G (could be the mix of flat and angled polished surfaces of the 5711 plus the edges of the sapphire crystal split light very nicely) -- the 5711 is much more likely (in my experience) to be a conversation starter which is maybe what you want out of a dress watch. In contrast, no one has asked about my 5227 since I picked it up last week but I have noticed some people sneaking a peak from the corners of their eyes. Response may vary though with a 5227 in rose or yellow gold.

If I had to pick one and only one of either the 5711 or 5227 it would have to be the 5711A as it is versatile (plus suitable for swimming) and beautiful watch (but I do wear my 5227G casually as well). The 5227G is beautiful too but for me anyway a piece that I wear to appreciate the craftsmanship, everything that makes it a Patek, and I like the fact that it is has a white gold case (even if other people don't know) if that makes sense at all! If you want a really nice dress watch I would go for 5227 in rose or yellow gold.
