A suggestion: if possible get a commitment from HSWA to do a future case/bracelet refresh at your convenience, then wear the piece safe in the knowledge that it will look perfect when you decide to send it back. Good luck to you. Things happen, stay frosty! |

Sorry to read a negative service by Patek, NYC. I don’t have an answer for your question. In the past two years both my Pateks have journeyed to NYC for service. Both came back, at different dates, with flawless service. I say this only as a reminder that most Patek service is spot on.

Your feelings are valid. That is total unacceptable. That said, they should be able to easily fix, as the damage is minimal. Curious to see hear how they resolve this.

OP - care to provide an update to this? I have had almost the same experience as you with my new Rolex. Had to go in soon after purchase for a QC issue, returned with a light scratch on the smooth bezel and caseback. After some persistent back and forth I was offered a careful refinish which I have decided not to do at the moment.

I had this happened to my mint condition 5711 back in 2014 when the watch needed a warranty work. The watch came back with light scratches on the bezel and some noticeable scratches on the back of the bracelet. I’ve gotten over this over the years and enjoyed wearing the watch. Fast forward to today and the watch is needing another service. I’m still hesitant to send in my watch since I’ve been able to maintain the watch in pretty much the same condition as it was 8 years ago. I hope the watchmakers would be more careful with the timepieces especially at an official service center.

Question: can you prove with photos that the watch was sent in without the photos? Or did they photograph it on receipt and have evidence that the watch arrived without the scratches? You can ask. Certainly would help your case.
Assuming their mistake, I would accept: One: Replacement watch, though this seems over the top and unnecessary to me. Two: Replaced bezel and or case; this seems the most appropriate option. I would not accept polishing. Polishing does not address the mistake, it covers up by the mistake by creating a new problem. A refund simply means you are not literally paying them for their mistake. Hardly gets to the issue. Good luck! I’m rooting for you and hope they do the right thing, quickly and kindly. If they do not, you have two choices: either accept it and enjoy the watch, knowing that the company treated you poorly; or sell the watch and be done with Patek. Either choice is defensible. Let us know how it goes and how you choose to act. PS: did not realize this thread is ancient history. |
