About "only SWISS" dial luminova

Hello seniors,

I have a watch that is a 1998 Wiss Dail and not using Super-Luminova.
Now I need to purchase luminescent powder to repair the luminous, but I am afraid of buying the wrong color.

I would like to ask if anyone knows which luminescent color was used for the Explorer 14270 from 1998 to 1999?

I'm not sure you can buy 25 year old Rolex lume off the shelf. It seems likely to me that the formulated their own proprietary mix. In other words, you might need to buy a variety of ingredients and formulate your own lume to match.

That'll be a tough one.

Are you sure you want to go that route?

I must agree with Felipe’s question.
You only get one shot at this. A match will be virtually impossible.

Even Rolex doesn’t try to “repair” LumiNova dial plots.

If you decide to forge ahead, maybe do the all the plots then you can be sure they’ll all look alike.

Well looking at a 1999 14270 I had to hand, the shade is closest to WGC3, or 3rd from right in below batch - BUT, and it's a hefty but, it's not to be undertaken lightly I'd say unless you're not bothered about devaluation of dial if it's visibly redone thereafter.

Btw I suspect a replacement service dial might come in (green) Luminova not (blue) superluminova from RSC as they made a lot of them and put into RSC storage in 1999 and it's not like it's a super popular model to have a dial replacement. Replacement Dial and obligatory service would be about £1500 or so I suspect.

How bad is it ..any chance of a photo for us peeps ?

WG C3 will have a green tint to it and won’t do. WG C1 will be the closest you can get but won’t be perfect as Rolex used their own specific blend.
