SD4K Now I totally get it...

For a while know I have been thinking about the Sea-Dweller 4000 and because I had never seen one in the flesh let alone tried one on, I scratched the itch yesterday and I called up my AD buddy - I never thought anything would come close to the perfection of a Submariner.

My first thought: The SD4K does NOT picture well. It is not a photogenic watch and you simply cannot appreciate its allure through photos.

In person it is a completely different animal, I was blown away. Despite the size, it sits perfectly centered on my wrist and it feels wonderfully well proportioned. Everything about the watch just feels "right"

This watch isn't for everyone and even more so at this price point but the truth is, I haven't been "WOWed" by a watch in a very long time.

SD4K owners, now I get it and if I can't get it off my mind within a couple weeks, I'll be acquiring one.

Congrats in advance Carlos! My old 16600 is the same. Not photogenic, but a great wearing watch.

I think as the passion (or addiction) grows we levitate towards the small details rather than the obvious differences.

One of the comments my AD made regarding SD owners "I've never seen anyone enjoy and beat the crap out of their watches as much as SD owners do" truly special piece. No congrats yet as I haven't made up my mind but 12 hours later, the moneys have been withdrawn from the bank

Congrats in advance, this is a watch that has me curious.

I've never had a chance to try it on, does it fit similar to the sub or does it feel bigger?

It fits completely different than the Sub in a very positive way. It is slightly heavier at the top but the case back sort of sinks into the skin and lets it sit in place so it never feels bigger. In fact, because of the way the lugs are angled it never hung off my wrist.

Congrats! I love my SD4K as well. No sub can beat the lug size of SD4k, vintage yet classic. Here's a few pic to compare sub with SD4k.

Although it's true the SDC4K is slightly thicker, due to the case and lugs being more silhouetted, the SDC4K is less clunky and wears smaller then the SubC!

Would agree - feels heavier than the Sub though still sits nicely on the wrist. As a die hard Seadweller guy, I picked one up right away on release but ended up moving it on....hard to put a finger on exactly why but I don't think I gave it long enough! Apart from tha SubC that I also have, the SD4000 is probably the only other current sports model that still interests me and I would probably go for one again. It's a superb piece of engineering....great watch!

Not surprised to hear that from the AD...I fit that description myself. And the watch takes it well.

As for not making up your mind...I think you are in denial. That decision was made at the AD. Look forward to the incoming!

Just happen to be wearing mine this morning...and agree it doesn't photograph well, at least by me anyway.

It's really the best modern Rolex diver overall IMO....they nailed everything on the watch and it's probably the most comfortable diver I own.

Canned Tuna is just so much more appropriate for that watch anyways. https://www.rolexforums.com/images/smilies/cheers.gif

Congrats, it's a stunner and for all the Sub fans, get you're hands on this and see for yourself. Cyclops arguments to be settle individually, please.
