No, but I think as supplies dry up prices will firm. Only produced for 3 years, and not a good seller, means supply will always be sightly limited. Demand relative to that supply will dictate the price.

There's a brand spanking new one in a Solihull (UK) AD at £8,960

I'm sure people will start listing them at ridiculous prices and them come back down to earth when they realize people won't pay them.

3 years? The shortest production in Rolex history. Likely price goes double.

Actual production was probably just two years. Introduced at Basel 2014, then to market that August or so, and Ads weren't able to order more in or around Q4 of 2016 by most accounts.

No way. It's a limited niche watch to begin with. There is enough of them on the secondary market that those that wanted it, would already own it. The new SD is really the modern Submariner as its size and spec is caught up to the competition. They wiill sell a lot more of the new SD than the current 40mm SD.

No...but do I think you'll see SD4k prices doing as nicely as other discontinued models on the secondary market. But, I'm no expert...time will tell.

They always keep the old models on the site during the transition period before the new hit ADs

I'm inclined to think the big price increases hit the 16610 instead, but just my perspective

I suspect prices will hold in the near term, but I would expect it to become a cult watch in the future. Amazing how often the unloved becomes lusted!

Except for inflation, the sd-c won't appreciate much at all. You can grab 666 and even rarer versions for under $15k still. Which are better bets and better sds imop.

Well I bought a 16710M with the 3186 and the price went up, I hope it does the same on my 116600.

Very good and logical point. I have been waiting to pull the trigger on one...can't decide between a 16600 lug holes swiss made dial, 116600, or BLNR...but I think the discontinuation of the 116600 has made up my mind.

Most are already sold of the EE here...

LOL they are a hard sell as it is. Discontinuing it isn't going to fix that. They are priced at an awful price point and too high as it is.

It's the other way around, they're going to fall off a cliff. Small size, "old" movement, no red letters. People would rather have a Sub than a SD4K 40mm.

In time the dimensions, matte dial and no cyclops will make this very desirable.
Add a limited production run of 3 years and.....

This forum predicted the 116520 would depreciate in value in the aftermath of Baselworld 2016.

To think of watches as 'investments' is a matter of perspective (I'm inclined to say no) . I like my recently acquired 116600 (I made sure I counted the 6's as I typed this) and that's that. I'm expecting resale value will hold just like other Rolex models do. No more and no less.

To the contrary, I think the SD4k will tank in price... it might even be a good time to pick one up.

Not currently in the U.K quite a few dealers have added 2k to the price since this morning and ones on EBay for 10k!

Madness...
