PP 5711 vs AP RO 15202

I'm trying to decide between a 5711 vs the AP RO 15202 39mm extra thin as my next watch. Both with the blue dial. Not sure I will be able to swing both, at least not for the foreseeable future.

Curious as to opinions from those who might own both as to what their preference and recommendation might be. Cheers.

AP is my favourite brand but I chose the 5711. I like both watches but in the end I just prefer the Patek blue dial.

Both are beautiful and have their own attraction. 5711 will set you back more than 15202, but I believe will also be more valuable down the road.

My avatar will vote for me

Given that you're asking in the Patek forum I suspect you'll find most would say 5711.

I have the 15400 silver dial and it's an amazing watch. I believe the bracelet on the royal oaks is incredible, slightly nicer than the Nautilus.

They pretty different watches despite sharing a lot of similarities and I suspect you'll end up with both :)

Had jumbo, have 5711. Make sure the 202 fits well, the integrated bracelet didn't work so well on my wrist

Had 5711 and currently have 15202or and for me prefer 15202. The bracelet second to none and RO has such a sporty look. The 5711 sleek as well of course and has a less sporty look IMHO. Both great watches and hard to beat. Of course you are posting in PP forum so most will say 5711. Unfortunately these are 2 watches you can't go and see to help in your decision. Good luck either way!

I ended up with the 15202 because I already have a 5726. TBO, I don't wear this very often because I don't want to beat it up. I know it's silly.

Depends on what you are looking for in a watch. Nautilus is a great unique watch and slightly under the radar. Only WIS will know what it is, due to the low production numbers. 15202 is great watch if you want that showstopper effect, the brushed steel bracelet is very iconic (Flashy) to AP and people WIS or otherwise will recognize your piece immediately. Being this a Patek forum, you know what I would go for. Both pieces are great choice, no bad decisions either way.

Great pair, and I would take the 5712 first, love the Naut design and this dial, then the AP for its beautiful bracelet. Then the 5711.

It doesn't get much better than this. My favorite watch (white 5711) together with my second favorite.

Oh boy I get your dilemma!

I would describe both as complimentary watches that should stay a pair and get reunited eventually down the line. Can I say there is no such thing as who's better or which one. Just own both! Haha.

But if it is the classic "if I can only have one watch": 15202 for me. I just like the overall aesthetics of the 15202. Dial, bezel, case is classic and definition of AP. Proporations are perfect for me. Bracelet best on the market. It's the original Genta with a story behind it. Can scream at the crowd a bit more but remains subtle most times. It's just beautiful. Secondary view is brand. I like the modern AP brand more. I like things uniform and the overall AP line-up speaks to each other. (Well, Milenary and Jules Audemars don't but their production level and range is very "quiet" per say). AP screams younger luxury sports and athletics which appeals and speaks to me more right now.

Patek is refined elegance and the brand as a whole a slightly "older" crowd. Eventually I can see myself deviate to Patek but right now we aren't on the same level yet.

Patek 5711 Jumbo is more modern and updated than AP RO Jumbo -- it is so easy to change date and time through the quick change system and has a rounded and more sensible crown. AP RO Jumbo - quite difficult to change time and date due to the crown and you need to do the 10pm to 1am turn to change the date. The use of a watch winder is preferred on the AP Jumbo for more convenience.

I always wanted a 15202 in rose gold or yellow gold. But I fell for the 5711r first. I love them both and will someday have the 15202 or the 15405.

I went for the 15202st - absolutely love it! Really sleek - slips right under the shirt cuffs, and the bracelet is second to none.

The dial is also really beautiful with the clou de paris, and a nice blue which you need to see for yourself.

Overall finish on the watch is amazing, and stands out more than on the 5711 in my opinion.

The 5711 does have 120m water resistance (vs. 30m on the 15202) with a screw down crown, so it will be more versatile.

Try to see if you can try on each watch before deciding.

I don't think both blue versions are too much of an overlap, both have their own characteristics that are quite different imho

I went through 15300 version because 15202 was too delicate in my POV, though

Based on fact you said you won't buy both at same time, I'd think about availability and cost just now. Is the 5711 going to keep this high prices and low availability for long? If not, 15202/15300 could be a good start, otherwise 5711 would be my choice

Best.

Wow. Thanks everyone for all the thoughtful and insightful feedback, and lovely pics. On my end I tried on the 5711 white dial about 6 yrs ago at a AD but didn't pull the trigger. I just remember how awesome and beautiful I thought the watch was.

This past week I tried on the 15202 rose gold version at a AP boutique and it was pretty awesome as well. They didn't have the steel version in store. I will say I like and prefer the black date wheel on the AP vs the white date wheel on the PP against the blue. I am just now learning that there seems to be some issues with the date set function on the AP? I don't like using watch winders so that sounds potentially non-ideal for me.

I do want to buy new so I can have my name on the papers so there is the issue of sourcing the 5711. I'm not inclined to pay above retail. My gut tells me to make a go for the 5711 since that has been on my radar longer. The sourcing issue throws a wrench in things though. Truth be told my gut also tells me I'll probably end up with both before I'm done...

Cheers to all.

I would choose blue 5711. I found it to have significantly better wearability and legibility

On the wrist I believe the 5711 is the clear winner on looks while the 202 (40th anniversary) wins on comfort. That said the comfort of the 202 is largely dependent on the owners wrist shape were the 5711 is significantly more accommodating to a broader range of wrist sizes.

Both great watches.

Just a point of clarification. The AP dial is a "Petite Tapisserie" design. "Clou de Paris" is different.
