Fake Explorer

I have just bought a 2016 Explorer 214270 with box and papers from a dealer on eBay. You will probably have seen a couple of my previous posts. With the watch being a large investment I have been trying to get as much info as possible to spot if it's a fake, the dealer had 100% feedback and 850 transactions good comms and quick delivery.
Anyway removed the bracelet with a lot of swearing and viola no serial number. He says 14 days returns which I will be taking up, but to be on the safe side belt and braces I paid with credit card through PayPal and there was an eBay money back guarantee.
Any comments please barring how stupid I was to buy in the first place

Spending that kind of money on a watch, without really knowing the product and or what you are looking at, off of EBay is a little reckless...

However, and without seeing pictures, you may just have a real watch yet!

The newer models no longer put the serial number between the lugs. It is engraved on the lower portion (6 o'clock area) of the inner ring (rehaut) under the crystal.
For your sake, fingers are crossed!

Hopefully you didn't scratch the band taking it off, as Rob said they don't place the sn there anymore.

Post some nice clear, in-focus pictures here and you'll get some help from other members. Many can spot a fake a mile away.

Rolex is one of few things that I'm willing to buy from AD and pay MSRP. Spending this kind of money on ebay or other sites is a big risk.

Yes check the serial number at the bottom of the inner bezel/rehaut before you do anything rash. I really doubt this is a fake based on what you've said.

Thanks for the info yes the serial number is on the inner ring panic over thank god for experts on forums. I am reluctant to post pictures as I haven't mastered the art yet. I did a lot of research first and found out the basics of what to look for but you can't tell until you have it in your hand.
Thanks again I'm going for a drink to celebrate.

The bands ok but can't say the same about the lugs. I suppose the scratches will come out with an angle grinder.

2016 would have been on the rehaut but DO NOT feel bad about this.

I took my 2012 GMT to a local "professional" watchmaker and they told me it was fake as it didnt have the serial number between the lugs!

I had to tell THEM where to look - unreal! LOL

Sure, there is some Tom Foolery that takes place on ebay, but there are also a gazillion of legitimate transactions. If your seller had 100% feedback with close to 900 transactions, I'd be VERY surprised if he sold you a fake.

I've been on ebay for over 10 years, have over 1300 positive feedbacks and have never once had a negative or even a neutral feedback. As a season ticket holder to my favorite MLB team, I recently listed an auction selling my weekend tickets. I got an email from a buyer wanting to know if I was running a scam. Sure, that's what I did. I created a 10 year history with over 1300 positive feedbacks so I could scam some guy out of a couple of ball game tickets.

The Rolex crown is etched into the crystal at the 6:00 position too. Very hard to see. Shine a flashlight from the 12:00 position to the 6:00 to see it.

As others have said; post the ebay listing link to start. As far as photos are concerned; if you have a photobucket account you can get links from anything there to post.

Glad it all worked out. I actually bought a fake Exp at one point. The seller in CA was so nasty when I halted them from shipping that it gave me great satisfaction rubbing it in when eBay sided with me due to inputs from this group. It was when I first discovered Rolex as a brand I was interested in. I took even greater satisfaction seeing them kicked out of eBay.

Great watch, enjoy it for a lifetime!!!
