5980R on strap has the best dial of any Nautilus in my opinion.

I guess I am kind of burned because I had 5960P before (twice) ; but I find the chronos on 5980, 5905 and 5960 to be mediocre. Don't roast me , it's just my opinion. So for that reason I'll go to the sure thing/safe opinion " 5711r"

Both are wonderful watches. I don't own either, but I have tried them both on.
The bracelet on the 5711/1r is sublime. It is such a comfortable piece that drips of slender elegance, offering just the right amount of heft thanks to the gold bracelet. And while the 5980r is stunning, I've heard it can be top heavy. Owners can give their personal accounts, but it's definitely worth trying that one on before jumping in. When I tried it on, it was a concern of mine, albeit I only had it on my wrist for a quick minute. Lastly, I think the Nautilus works best on a bracelet, YMMV. Some pics of each when I tried them on:

If you can wear a full gold watch, get the 5711

5711/1R for me because of the bracelet and I love the date window framing.

Argh... Very difficult choice. I love both...
I agree with basically everyone in that the Nautilus bracelet is just sublime. But a full gold bracelet is not for everyone, and not to be worn everywhere. I believe the 5980 on strap might be a bit easier to wear and a bit more versatile. But that is just me. Depending on one's lifestyle, where they live, etc the full gold bracelet could be just as wearable or even more than a leather strap (I see that OP is based in Thailand, a country I am yet to visit). To sum up, I would agonize if I had to decide between these two for myself, but I would probably end up picking the 5980, or not. Huge congrats on getting either! |

My first PP love was the 5980r, it's a fantastic watch, but by the time I was ready to buy a RG Nautilus the 5711/1r came out and that was the one for me. The brown dials are very similar in colour but it's sleeker, elegant, better balanced and on the gorgeous silky bracelet. For the bulkier sports watch I prefer AP.

If you can get the 5980R with the bracelet if not 5980R with the strap.

Why mediocre? Doesn't anyone ever use the function? I own a half dozen chronograph watches but would never think to actually time anything with them. iPhone does a much better job of that. |

I use the chrono on my 5905P frequently. The pushers are smooth, better than the two 5980's I had.

I said is personal, these are my personal reasons : 1) drive me crazy that they don't have second hand, you have to run the chrono second to feel that the watch is alive 2) so difficult to read, at first I thought it's a cool concept and end up hating it Those things drive me crazy , and when I pay that kind of money , I'll be better off with other complications instead of a chrono that annoys me. I know I am in the minority but that's my opinion Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
