"Red"And "White" Sub 1680 Dating Question

Did Rolex make both Red and White dial Submariners 1680's between 1969-1973?
I have a white dial Submariner with serial # 278xxx which with my limited research dates it to 1970-71. On-line sites are not clear on this point. If in fact only "Red" were in production between 1969-1973(as one site implies), wondering why I have the white dial that dates in that time period. I know the watch all original as I have owned this Submariner 1680 since new.

Dial was changed during a service most likely.

A 2.7M serial would be a red sub.

Sadly I have a 3,xxx,xxx Red sub that has a White Mk2 face, it greatly devalues the watch and a genuine correct Red sub face are all but impossible to source
