Slightly off topic, but the pics of the sub;
On the bezel the "0" looks different in the pics shown.
One is more square. Which is the right font?

However, and I don't know why, I like the sub.

rolex has many differences in their watch dial and bezel insert fonts and colors from batch to batch. this is well documented throughout the years.

By the way, why don't I see any comments on the way the bracelets look too skinny for the cases on both of these watches. I would love to see a thicker bracelet that doesn't taper as much. What are your opinions on this?
I'm with you on this one. I feel the bracelet is far to skinny for the case. Its thinner than the original ones but heavier due to the solid links.
I'd like to see a 22mm bracelet on both these models. A little more weight would be a trade off for a better proportioned look.

Someone beat me to the punch as i was paying for it. This is my first rolex purchase Coming from tag heuer calibre 17 RS The waiting game is driving me crazy

I don't get this thread; it depends on what you will use the watch for and whether one watch or the other fulfills your needs while the other does not.

PCL can be brushed at an AD so that's no biggie.
Sub will always be mainstream, no 1, bestseller, "rolex statement"... Having said that it basically comes down to if one likes a splash of green in the dial and an extra complication.

its 50:50 imo

(FYI - the "O" in ROLEX on my GMTIIC is "round" and it is "flater" on my Sub-C dial)

I am leaning towards the GMT. I have never owned a Rolex before and am about to buy my first. I fly for the Marine Corps and wanted a watch with some aviation function but had no idea what to look for. I have looked at the Breitlings and Tags but after talking to people and seeing whats out there I am sold on the Rolex GMT. It has a great classic look with some functional features that appeal to me. I did see the new Sub...what a great looking watch! But I think that when all is said and done the GMT 116710 SS is the right watch for me.

Does anyone else have any insight that I might be missing? This will be a everyday watch for me.

I'd happily wear either but I think Rolex did a better job on the Sub. The GMT would look better if the links weren't polished, the GMT hand was red and the bezel wasn't glossed. With the Sub Rolex made the subtle changes they are known for. Also, the over sized everything gives the GMT a very busy look. Also, the bezel on the Sub is 120 click.

I'd go with the GMT if you had some inexpensive way to get the PCL's polished every so often. Some of the preowned ones I've seen get pretty hacked up, after only a year or 2.

I usually see about 4 people wearing subs on my train ride home.

i am a little confused by this post. they made the same changes to the sub they made to the gmt2c. solid links, new clasp, super case, shiny ceramic bezel insert and maxi dial. none of the changes were subtle, it's basically the same watch with a 120 click bezel, a diver oriented insert and less complications with a brushed bracelet.

have i missed something?

my understanding was that the SS GMTIIC was a 50th anniversary model, and im glad they have a green 24 hour hand rather than have the Rolex green else where.....

I have both. I purchased the GMTII C this past May and initially had a difficult time getting used to the looks of the watch. Very comfortable to wear and keeps excellent time. I now think the GMT C is absolutely beautiful, it has grown on me in a big way. That said, I also wanted the Sub C and purchased one yesterday and it is really fantastic. Great wrist presence, very comfortable and just a wonderful piece. Both watches have distinct personalities and in my eyes can coexist easily without friction.

Thanks,
Ken

GMTIIc for me. I liked the polished links. It just looks more modern to me, despite the new case of the SubC.

Wow this is an old thread. Personally if we are talking black dial and bezel, I like the GMTIIc. But give me a TT blue sub any day over a GMTIIc
