Rolex Submariner Ref 14060M COSC Review

Well guys, thought I would put finger to keyboard, and type a review of my one and only, plus current watch, The Submariner ref: 14060M COSC.

My watch was purchased brand new from a Rolex AD and is a Z serial. It features the now COSC rated 3130 movement, and the Rolex Rolex Rolex engraved on the rehaut plus the serial number is also engraved at the 6 o'clock position again on the rehaut.

The watch feature the LEC (Rolex coronet lazer engraved) on the crystal at the 6 o'clock position.

Dealing first with the case. It features lug holes, the only current production Rolex with this "orginal feature" intact. Make it very easy to swap bracelets and gives it a nice retro look. The case edges are given the Rolex polishing treatment and looks like white gold imo. When the light catches the metal, the effect is extraordinary. Moving to the bezel, it features the "coin edge" finish with polished facets, again the way Rolex cuts the bezel edge is fantastic, as it seems to catch the light in an amazing way, making the watch look like a jewel.

The Dial, is one of the main features of this watch. The enamelled black finish looks almost liquid in finish and is so clean looking with the lack of cyclops and date complication. The extra COSC writing imo does not detract from the dial in any shape or form, as some people might suggest. Mine has well printed lettering and is very clean and white. I have seen variations in dial printing, some dials appear a little finer in depth of printing making it appear a little fainter. It is worth comparing dial finishes.

Now to the bracelet, it features a pressed steel clasp and divers extension link. It has hollow centre links and Non SEL at the lug end.
Much has been said about the quality of the bracelet, and by todays standards and price I might agree, but for the followings points

1) The watch imo is a homage to the original Subs and the famous 5513. I think Rolex have attempted to keep a vintage style homage watch in the range with some subtle and minor changes. The braclelet fits well with this vintage appeal.
2) Apart from anything else, this bracelet has been tested in the field for many many years, and quite simply WORKS. Simple as that.
3) After wearing SEL bracelets, what I can say from experience is that the NON SEL has a better profile on the wrist and is very very comfortable to wear. My apprehension towards NON SEL is now a thing of the past.

The watch came with the following bits and bobs.

1) Outer white sleeve
2) Inner box in a light green
3) The actual green Rolex watch box made out of some sort of plastic
4) The watch (Thank goodness)
5) A plastic bezel protector
6) Two swing tags, the Red chronometer seal and green swimpruf inventory tag
7) A green wallet
8) Three booklets, Your Rolex Oyster, a general Submariner bookelet, and a warranty/chronmeter translation booklet.
9) A credit card style warranty card

So to finish, this watch represents imo, Rolex heritage and has in some way faithfully remained, why did Rolex only include minimal changes to this watch, in a world full of changes, maybe Patrick H, looked at smiled, and said, Why mess with tradition and timeless beauty. A classic now and the future

Jon: Great review about a great watch. A true classic, which inherits all the true merits and plain looks of the Submariner saga of watches of the past.

I just bought one yesterday. I would prefer the non COSC units no longer made, but unavailable here in my Country (brand new I mean).

Anyway, I like this non date very much, and I´m wearing it today.

Hi Guys I just joined the Forum today.Not sure why it took me so long to find it.I too just bought a 14060M. "M " serial number.My question.How many links is it supposed to come with?I count 12 before it attaches to the clasps.Do you count the pieces attached to the case as links ?

unless you're strapped for cash, get the date function. My friend bought without and everyone kept giving him a hard time for being so cheap and not getting with the date. The $800 extra is well worth it. It completes the watches look.

Hi Apollo: I guess you refer to the little black print stamped over the clear plastic protective cover which comes with brand new Rolex watches.
It goes out when owner discards those protections f the highly polisheed back and front of case.
Looks like a tiny bar code print.
May be some fellow member can throw more light upon the exact use of this print.

Hi Mike!:
My brand new 14060m came with 5 links at "6" and 7 links at "12", plus the divers extension piece. That´s the standard factory config.

Sorry, didn´t read well your question:
The pieces attached between the case lugs, are called "end links", but I didn´t count them as part of the bracelet in my previous answer, as I considered them as a "cosmetic" part to cover the attachment of the bracelet.
Of course these are two additional pieces, one between each pair of lugs.

I picked up my new Sub ND serial # Z77xxxx COSC three days ago. Its a work of art and I love it. After reading the OP I understand that his watch has the laser engraving of the crown on the lens. I looked at mine carefully with a magnifing glass and there is no lasered crown. Is this known to anyone?
