Icon20 Laser crown and "cheap" no-date

The author's great review on his 14060M COSC covered a lot of territory. But a couple of responses caught my attention as miss leading or just wrong. First to set the record straight, all will have the cornet laser engraved right in the area of the '6'. I used my loupe and had to angle the watch rather than straight on. You'll find it. Next, no cyclops date bubble makes the watch look cheap????
Why? Can you offer any particular reasons for that observation. At one time I had 10 Rolexes, primarily vintage. Keeping them serviced was a pain under Rolex USA old service police. I tried on a Daytona while in Munich at an AD and I was surprised at how 'cheap' it felt. Nothing solid. I had a ref 5512 and a 5513. The 5512 has a date feature. It was made for around 10 years. The 5513 w/o a date finally ground to a halt after a roughly 40 odd year run. Demand vs supply. On personal note. In this information age, if I can't find out the day, date, time, moonrise, sunrise, my dementia must be farther along than I realized.

Thanks for the review. Interesting to see the spacing of the dial's wording on your watch (and the other picture in this thread). The line on my 14060M reads "1000ft=300m", while the other two pictures in this thread read "1000ft = 300m". I remember that this was discussed previously. Anyone else have any insight?

+1 Otherwise get a 5513.

I just bought one yesterday. I would prefer the non COSC units no longer made, but unavailable here in my Country (brand new I mean).

Anyway, I like this non date very much, and I´m wearing it today.

Thanks for this review!

Nice review and pictures. I just bought the same watch last week. Been wearing it everyday, it really is a fantastic watch. Very comfortable and lightweight at 4.5 oz. I'm used to wearing heavier Omega's and Breitlings, so this is a revelation. I now have the discontinued SeaDweller on layaway at my local AD. It looks so identical to the non date submariner, wish now I had bought the green sub or the date model just so their different but I like the non date look so much I'm going to be happy with both. I wouldn't have put the seadweller on layaway if it wasn't at such a bargain price because it's no longer made.
It's interesting how a watch that is going to be hard to find and disappearing off dealers shelves end up being discounted so heavily, makes them more affortable for me.
At 5.4 oz the seadweller will be a little heavier, but the same weight as a speedmaster pro moonwatch, and slightly heavier than the bond seamaster (5.2oz).
For me, I find that once a watch gets to weigh over 6 oz it becomes tedious to wear all day. The seadweller deepsea at 7.8 oz or 1/2 pound! is a monster in weight.

I like that my submariner no date looks so similar to the original Bond early sixties watch, it's a classic. Also, my wife, who doesn't usually notice the differences in my watches thought that this watch was gorgeous because of the scalloped edge sparkle on the bezel and liquid black dial and no date bubble.

I love that watch. The only watch I currently own is a SS Sub-date I purchased new in 1997. I love the Sub-date, but IMO the ND looks "cleaner". What a classic. If I had it to do over, I would quite possibly get the ND.

We do not buy no date because we cannot buy the other! We just do not need/use the date!!The simplest, the best to me.

Great review, Jon and a very nice watch. Personally I like the drilled lug holes and stamped bracelet.

I have to agree with the above post....Its not about cost/date/no date!! Its all about style and preference to the wearer.... I've had both date and non date subs, but to me the no date is the cleanest(thats just me),we are all different...I even had a Sea-Dweller(now sold and im kicking myself for doing it) for the simple reason it had no cyclops!! Again, cleaner looking...
Now I'm not saying there is anything wrong with the cyclops(it's a rolex icon)...Some of us just like the simplicity!! I love the magnified date on my GMTIIC TT...Just not on my sub....
Sorry for the rant people, just had to let that out.....Now I better go to bed!..

Still the best!

IMHO, the 14060 is still one of the very best Rolexes of all time.

I've been thru several Sub-dates and still wear the SD 4000 and DSSD but now the wife has gotten hold of the 14060 non-CSOC, adjusted the bracelet, and wears it proudly.

Other watches will come and go but the 14060 will live on forever. Thx for the great review and all of the great comments!

My thoughts exactly... I have the non COSC (06') and I love it. The history behind it, etc..

I get a kick out of showing my wife pics of Sub ND's here on TRF from it's inception to current and she says "why are you showing me the same watch?, it looks like the black Rolex..."

Great Review!

The watch I am saving for. Been poring over pictures and brochures and trying on all different kinds and brands of watches but nothing grabs me like the Sub no date. Clean, crisp, classic.

This neophyte is proud to have joined your ranks...bought a new 14060m just this week, trading a SS oyster datejust, white Roman face (have another, same but gold/SS two tone, fluted bezel for dress).
We have a great AD here in Cincinnati, who will work with you to put that dream on your wrist.

Love this watch for all the reasons cited in this thread. A watch to keep more than time.

Love the James Bond connection, too.

The ND has the clean look and the historical antecedents that make it unique and desirable.

Oh I meant to ask....
Is this correct?

"All Rolex Submariner 14060M prior to 2007 are not COSC certified. Late in 2007, Rolex started to produce Rolex Submariner 14060M which were COSC certified"

The COSC 14060M's were only produced from 2007 until discontinue? I should know this but don't...sorry.
