Predictions for the Paul Newman Daytona Auction

So what's the consensus on the "under the hammer" price of Paul Newman's Daytona on Thursday?

Prediction? It will crush the Bao Dai easy peasy. I voted $10MM+ I'm also interested to see the "Mr Rolex Daytona" hit the block. It's gonna be a good day for Daytona's, methinks.

Would be an interesting turn of events if the winning bidder was Rolex itself that wanted a museum piece

I'm waiting for the subsequent scandal when the Newman will be revealed as having non-authentic parts in it.

Voted $10M+. I wouldn't even be surprised to see $20M for a cult icon like this - it's going to be pocket change to some collector.

I am not so sure about $10mil.
But would think $5mil. to $7mil.
Had Phillips and Cox provided physical provenance I could see the $10mil. figure. Can you imagine learning later that Cox had replaced many parts?

Rolex should buy it. What a treasure, priceless to the brand. Daytonas didn't sell to easily until he was shown wearing his...or so I've heard...

Tiffany's recently won the auction for Audrey Hepburn's copy of the script for "Breakfast at Tiffany's," at something like 600,000 pounds (100 times the pre-bid estimate, if I recall right). But I somehow don't see the Swiss gnomes who run Rolex popping for 5 or 10 million US for the Newman.

It's going to be fun on Thursday, regardless.

Here's the link to the auction calendar site.

https://www.phillips.com/auctions/auction/NY080117

The overall auction begins at 6 pm EDT tomorrow, and the Newman Daytona is Lot 8. Someone (it may have been on Hoodwinkee) said the auction is being live-streamed, but I can't find that on the site.

It's difficult to even imagine 10 million for this watch.

But with all the hype, the state of the current (watch) market, the marketing done on this auction and watch I am positive there are bidders out there who know nothing about watches but are advised it's a proper investment or a must have and those guys will make sure it reaches a really high number.

If the regulars would bid I would say 6-8 million. If everyone with money joins it should go over 10 million. Likely a lot more.

I'm also convinced all the other watches will reach record numbers as well.

Yes it is waste of money if there is that much of money that it can be spent during your lifetime. There are already many nouveau rich billionaires who cant buy anything anymore as they have all, or things they want are not for sale, like some companies or so So it gives them feeling of achievement which certainly is scarce in their lives as they have already collected all what they think as accomplishment

Not waste of money at all IMO :)

It will be a watershed moment and end up being the most expensive watch ever sold. It will easily blow away the current record. Welcome to the mania.

Imagine the folks who bid and not win but still ending up with a really amazing story to tell for many years to come.
