Tudor Black Bay Bronze Bucherer Blue Patina Long Term Study
I've had a few requests to try and keep track of the patina development. The pics in this first post are what I will call zero pictures.
However, the watch was about 3 months old at the time these pictures were taken but was never worn other than to have the strap put in. By now the fingerprints of the individual who did the strap change had already set a bit, but the rest of the watch looked pretty brand new since it was actually kept wrapped in plastic. Enjoy and let me know if you would like to see anything specific. |

The pictures in this post are about two weeks after the ones above. I will call these week two pictures.
A couple of notes: - I've been going out of my way to keep the watch clean. I changed the strap to the NATO and each time cleaned between the lugs. Cleaning so far means wiping the watch frequently. No solvents or any cleaning agents were used. - If you look you can see the crown is much darker. That was the case even when I first got the watch - There is a small patina spot developing near the crown on the side of the case. - Overall I think the watch is a tiny bit less shiny but I would say it's still pretty new looking. - The back of the case is taking a bit more patina as it's exposed to my skin. - I've worn the watch almost every days for the last couple of weeks. Pictures are taken with a Samsung Note 8 Phone and only processing done is to crop and resize. |

Ultimately this watch will turn black....in about 100 years time, if it’s not cleaned and polished.
Pretty sure I won’t be around by then to see the end result, but look forward to witnessing the aging process. Nice watch BTW. |

Is the caseback not stainless that is PVD coated on the Bucherer models? I would have thought it was the same as the standard black bay bronze.

I have never seen a regular one but based on pictures I think it's the same color. The inscriptions are different though.

It is. That is why it is two different colors. I have noticed with the BBB in general that they don’t tend to age/patina as much as some others bronze pieces, like Panerai, Oris or Archimede, all of which I have owned. Different combination of materials than most I believe. Someone did this with a regular BBB and it is cool to watch. Look forward to it every time. Should have done it with my Oris Brashear as they really patina. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |
