1803 Macros

Dug out a cheap 25x loupe. Apologies for dust on the loupe, but this 50 year old Day Date is amazing.

Good stuff!

I played with a magnifier app on my cheap Android phone and my old 1625.

What led you to that decision Aftermarket dial - was it the irregular printing ? M
Julian

I ask because I just bought a 1803

Not a true macro, but here's a crop-and-enlarge using an 85mm lens of my ca. 1977 1803, Italian day dial.

Datewheel didn't sit correctly and I gave it to my watchmaker who confirmed it.

Did he say what to look for? I'm looking at vintage 1803's and hope to avoid any hassles. That black dial looks great, sad to hear it was a fake - great job aging it though....

Hi,

could you give more details?
while I am no expert, I would not have said this is an aftermarket dial.

I remember when I commented that day wheel does not sit correctly, I did not think the dial was the culprit.

The 'EX' in Rolex isn't level at all, plus the 'CH' in Chronometer bleed into each other.

In fact the printing of every letter is highly irregular.
