Platinum DayDate
Talking through a PT DayDate , I don’t like the polished bezel and much prefer the flutted on the white gold .
I was advised Rolex can’t produce a platinum flutted bezel , would anybody have a opinion on that statement ? I find it incredibly hard to believe that and think I’ll file that under my AD said 😳. And now find my self looking at a WG Meteorite DD |

I think they can, but they chose not to in order to differentiate between WG and platinum.
You can always opt for the baguette bezel on the platinum. |

Im the same as you Scooba. I wanted a platinum Daydate, but did not like the smooth bezel, and have now ordered a DD40 with meteorite dial/baguettes.

Its for my 50th Birthday, so it was specially ordered for me, I have been told its within 12 months so that works well for me. In fairness my AD has been great to me and delivered on all my requests under time frames quoted. I pick up a full YG Daytona with Paul Newman dial next week that was a special order, took around 3 months from a quoted time of 12. So excited for this one.

I also don’t like the platinum day date’s smooth bezel. May get one someday however this was my first big purchase and to me it’s undoubtedly the best day date in my mind and also the best meteorite combo.
Own a lot of watches and I doubt anything will ever take this off the top spot for me. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

That’s an excellent point, and yes it is
I believe Rolex can make the Pt. bezel platinum if they want, they just don’t It’s sort of supposed to be an under the radar watch (if that at all makes any sense being that’s it’s platinum) |

Platinum DD40 with meteorite dial is hands down more beautiful than the white gold version. The slight yellow hue just doesn’t blend as well with the diamonds and Gibeon in my opinion. Unfortunately it’s slightly more expensive….

Platinum DayDate
Platinum DD40 has a diamond bezel option. That is the one to get. Issue resolved.

Jocke, that's awesome. Looks incredible. Fantastic photography too!
I too prefer the fluted bezel on any DJ or DD. |

perhaps a fluted bezel in platinum does not stand up to normal wear and tear well

Rolex was heavily promoting Pt smooth bezel DD in their British Open golf commercials. Imagine the calls to AD's looking for one.

My newest acquisition. Wanted a DD that wasn't as loud as my YG DD's, considered WG but didn't like the yellow tones. Found the meteorite dial with WG too monochrome and dead. Platinum has a brightness and luster that puts it over the top. The smooth bezel is a welcome change since most of my watches have fluted bezels. I choose ice blue with ice, the dial is alive, and has not been off my wrist since.

He explained that platinum is denser than gold and harder to work with, and so the designs he (and others) could do in platinum were typically less complex/intricate and more often were smooth and simple in nature compared to what could be done in 18K gold. I suspect that explanation may be part of the reason why the smooth bezel is the only option for platinum bezels from Rolex. |
