How do you guys get so close??? I tried and this was the best I could do

Use the macro function on your point and shoot camera. If you have an SLR, a good macro lens is invaluable for this kind of work, or you can crop the image in photo editing software to get a similar effect, which is what I did in the shot below. You can crop even more for a tighter shot.

Very nice...good depth of field, good lighting...

But you can get closer.. this is poorly focused because I have bad eyes....

I can get much closer, but I have a dedicated 1:1 ratio macro lens just for that.
All in all, the truth is that if all you want to do is get close to your watch, spending AT LEAST 400 bucks on a decent macro lens is simply not worth it.

I can get sooooo close with my specialised set up. "CRB" engraved rehaut/flange at 200X.

Don't ask me how much it cost though, phew.
