<<< what’s your “go to” news source? >>>
I thought it might be interesting to see where the group gets their news from. I’m not interested in vague responses (the tv, the internet, google etc).
I’d like specific sources I think it’s fascinating to hear the many diverse opinions we have here in the forum, and I can’t help but think that many of those are based on where we get our news from. I’ll go first. I get my main news fix from: the Globe and Mail, The Economist and The NY Times. I also have My Bloomberg screen running in the background all day Go …. |

I know you didn't want general answers, Brian, but I go to Google News every day to grab my news.
I do have a NYT subscription but that's only so I'm able to read the articles that pop up via Google News; I don't visit the site independently. |

On the phone/computer, AP News or Reuters. I've got Flipboard but I don't use it as much as I used to.
In print, WSJ and USA Today. I know USA today gets a lot of flack, but it's a quick easy read and covers the basics pretty well. On TV, ESPN and Weather Channel. We don't ever watch news on TV except for maybe local if there's a big story (rare). We blocked all the other news channels, they are all pretty much garbage. |

Apple news with a subscription so I get more sources
I prefer to gather my own information and never let one source "read" to me.

Interesting to hear USA Today. As a newspaper guy, I always appreciated the format for the reasons you just mentioned. A great way to read the headlines

When TV news was taken over by their entertainment departments, they signaled what they are, so I never watch them. In fact if I walk in somewhere that they are on, I leave the room.
I get feeds from New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Atlantic, BBC, Guardian, ProPublica, Vice, MacLeans, Intercept, Aeon, Vox, Axios, a few others, and feeds from New Atlas and Pocket.

I see you use News Atlas quite often. I must have a closer look into them. Do you know if they are independent? |

The magazines alone are worth the subscription and the other sources are wide and varied.

Within Apple News, you don’t find yourself gravitating to one or two sources over the others? |

No, because I am a very analytical curious person. I want as many sources as I can get to give me as much information as I can get before I form any kind of opinion. It also explains why i ask so many questions here and why I get so few answers. But I am used to it.

I’m on about 12 years now of not missing a single day of the Wall Street Journal. That’s first in the morning, followed by Washington Post and NYT (occasionally).
Obviously also lean on TRF “Open Discussion” for information |

Good answer.
Unfortunately most sources now try to "out Onion" the Onion.

In 2022 the most honest news source is the News Corp family of companies (NY Post, Fox News, WSJ, etc.) In the past, other mainstream news had more credibility and more independence from corporate and government interests.

Online subscriptions to Washington Post, New York Times, and print plus online sub to Santa Rosa Press Democrat. For television it's CNN, MSNBC, PBS, and C-Span. Online it's Huffington Post, MSN, CNN, The Guardian, and Daily Beast.

I use Apple News as well with the subscription, tons of content. I've got my favorites set up to give me alerts which are usually from NYT, Washington Post, Wall St Journal, and The Atlantic. Reuters, AP, BBC as well. I really like FiveThirtyEight as well around election times and during sports playoffs. Side note, on AppleNews you can now pick your favorite sports teams and it will gather articles from several publications under one tab in the app.
I virtually never watch network or cable "news" any more unless it's local stuff. Too cringy. Not news at all really. Feel much better on a daily basis for letting that stuff go. |
