16710 ‘Rectangular Stick’ dial - is this real?
Hi All
Things seem to be getting crazier and crazier in 16710 world. Was browsing some ads and came across someone asking €18.500 for a 2007 used GMT Master II. Not the 3186 movement, not NOS; but a nice condition, full set, used example. The reason for the price, the seller claims, is that it is an ultra rare ‘Rectangular Stick’ dial, which seems to be a stick dial but with the font for the rest of the ‘GMT Master II superlative chronometer officially certified’ text in the same font as can be found on a Rectangular dial, which apparently is different to the normal text found on the Stick dials, and is very rare. Personally I wouldn’t pay a premium for the Stick or Rectangular dials, though I know they do command a higher price- but anyone heard of this ‘ultra rare’ version? Is it a real thing? Or is the Rolex world just getting crazier by the day? |

Crazier by the day if you ask me. Some things I’m willing to pay up for. Others not. Stick dials and even 3186 movements in GMTs are meaningless to me.

It’s like people want to spend money for the sake of it. Like they’re waiting to be told what’s worth buying. Utter lunacy.

Also with regard to the three GMT II dial versions, while most certainly a number of GMT II “stick dials” were original equipment, numerous sources report that the stick dials were used as service replacements. So who’s to say if any particular GMT with a stick dial was OEM or merely a service replacement? If anything, the “rectangular II” would appear to be the most rare version, for those who even care about such minutiae. |

Talk about hype. Any little thing to pick on to make it seem rare and desireable to raise the price. Stick dial, I think not.. but the 3186 premium takes the cake. Not my money..

It’s getting so much harder to even care anymore, isn’t it?
