Refinishing by RSC?

So I dropped off my 16570 Explorer II I bought pre-owned at the Rolex service center in NYC, and received a service estimate from them. In it, they're saying that the watch has no service history with RSC, and the the finishing on the watch is "non-Rolex". Now, when I dropped off my watch I did say no refinishing but since the finish on the watch is non-Rolex, they're asking if I want to get it refinished.

The watch does have some scratches, but nothing major. Do you think it's a good idea to get RSC to refinish it? I know about refinishing an original finish takes away value but since the watch already had been polished once by a non-Rolex watchmaker, I'm wondering if it would be better to get it refinished by RSC.

Well I told them no refinishing and they sent me an email with pictures/detail regarding non-Rolex finish and asked if I really wanted no refinishing

Clearly they are recognizing it was previously done and poorly.
I would definitely have no issues with letting them rectify it.
What will be removed is negligible.

If it's not an original finish then I'd get it refinished at RSC.

Let them do it. They have a new machine to refinish the watch keeping the edges they way they should be.

Interesting, I told them to go ahead and refinish the watch. In the meantime, do you have any more info on this?

You did the right thing, getting back a watch after full service is like getting a brand new piece

I guess I'm in the minority, if you didn't think it needed a polishing in the first place, then don't do anything. IMO a watch only has a few polishes in it before it is over done. I'd save the Rolex refinishing for the next time you really need it.

Non-Rolex finishes are hit or miss and mostly miss and the steel looks hideous. I'd rather trust the RSC on this case.

Agreed.
I'd leave it for now and revisit the option on the next service.
I suppose it depends on how good one wants the watch to look overall

Don't buy into all this "no refinishing" nonsense.

You want your watch to look it's best after a service call. If this watch was improperly finished, then let them put it right.

You don't ever have to have it done again, but at least you know that you are starting in the best possible condition.

Maybe Rolex RSC is spreading the No-Refinishing craze so less work for them! Hehe :)
Unless your watch is a vintage collectible, have them refinish it!

I would definitely let them bring the watch back to original polish spec.
