saw hundreds of Rolexes, anything hot they have. This case was no different than 30 or 40 others.

I doubt it. There are many billions of dollars in diamonds & jewelry on that one block. Fake stuff is down on Canal Street.

Diamond District has them all but don’t expect any bargains on Rolex.

Isn’t an amazing site to see so many in one spot. It’s the same in Miami. It’s a wonder how they hold their value and even command such high premiums with literally thousands of them available.

Love 47th street. Had business there in the past and would do it again. One of my favorite nyc attractions.

Maybe at some of the sketchier spots, but I'd wager the overwhelming majority on 47th st. are legit.

Yes, I doubt you'd find a "true" 100% fake in the diamond district

They buy directly from the AD's around the northeast. Make no mistake, AD's sell directly to these guys. The daytona goes for 24k and the AD sells it for half that. AD's aren't dumb and they want part of that action, so they sell a daytona to these guys for 20k and make them also take a half dozen two tones to seal the deal.

I believe that showcase belongs to Motion In Time. I've been in there several times and those are all authentic pieces from what I could see/try on. Their prices are definitely on the high side for the secondary market, but the pieces are legitimate to my knowledge. I definitely enjoy a stroll through 47th street

Is it just me or does it look strange to see all those watches displayed and bunched together randomly ...

Isn’t it interesting how the plastic wrap and lack of care completely kills any appeal...let alone the prices? I’ll stick to my AD.

Was at the diamond district 2 weeks ago to have my wife's wedding band fixed and the booth across from where I was didn't have single piece of jewelry or diamonds for sale. He was only selling Rolex and had 4-5 Breitlings for sale also. He had a few new with sticker watches but his prices were so high I laughed and walked away.

Good call. I took that pic because it wasn't in a booth inside where the vultures are on you like a piece of meat. Saw the outside security guys eyeballing me though.

+1. ADs Selling to grey for premium. A breakdown of retail chain on behalf of Rolex.

I'm on Motion in Times email list. Boris there has some real bargains on non-Rolex stuff. Full gold pieces from respected brands NIB for 40-50% off at times. I'm ste his Rolex, PP, and AP prices are high though.

A first time experience in the Diamond District may leave you feeling skeptical about authenticity, but the more you understand about the business there the more you learn that what you are seeing is 100% legit. There are guys there who take the train in with millions in diamonds on their person that you'd never suspect. A small countertop in one of the larger malls charges an obscene rent. There's also a ton of unseen security. I will admit there are a lot of people trying to aggressively sell to you, but if you know where you are going and who you want to deal with it's actually a really refreshing retail experience.

My diamond dealer has a small countertop in one of the malls. He puts nothing on display (thinks its a waste of time), deals only by appointment (you wouldn't know where to look for him anyway), and has been there for 35-40 years. When we were looking for a setting for my wife's engagement ring, he literally walked the across the street, was greeted by no less 5-6 other retailers, and handed a diamond I was paying quite a bit for to another guy to set with no paper trail or receipt. When I asked him about this, he basically told me that if the guy screwed him he'd never work in NYC again.

It's all legit and very old school.

Great post. The place is great if you know what you're doing and who you're dealing with.

Everything on 47th St is legit. That entire block and industry works on reputation and credit. A guy’s business is their name. No one on that black would ever risk their name to make a few bucks. You can always buy confidentaly there, but don’t expect any discounts or bargains on anything hot. You can find almost any model in any metal there, and you’ll pay the premium.

These diamond district posts on TRF get a lot of attention. This one is no different. Few posts but more than 2k views. I believe people are interested in knowing who's who there so I'd vote Element in Time (Alex and Nick) and Avi & Co (Roman Sionov). Great people. Cheers.

This is so true

Wife and I are on the tail end of an excellent holiday in NYC. Today we wandered into the diamond district and i've never seen so many luxury watches ever in my life. Hundreds (thousands?) of watches: Rolex, Patek, AP... you name it. One Rolex example that sticks out in my memory is seeing five BLNRs next to two BLROs in the same window display.

In western Canada, Rolex sightings are rare. You just don't see them too often. Maybe in Vancouver, but not so much in Calgary or Edmonton. So when you don't see them you start to get the sense that they're somewhat rare and maybe even special

And after what I experienced today, I had this personal revelation..

my Rolex is not special. AT ALL
