Hello,

Which would you recommend as a next watch purchase - 5127R or 5146R? Just posted on another forum but wanted to see what you guys think.

I know everyone here likes the complications, in that sense these 2 can't be compared. However, I am mainly concerned in style and aesthetics of these 2 watches. Something that will look stylish and not dates many years to come. Say, Patek 5035 (previous model to 5146) does look dates and not so appealing to me. I am afraid that 5146 might do the same in the future. But, may be I am wrong. Of course the same can happen to 5127.

I personally own the 5127.....and LOVE it! At the time of purchase I was considering the 5146 as well, but decided against it in favor of the more simple 5127. Although complications are nice to have and neat to look at, they can present their own issues and challenges. For instance, setting it after it stops running can be tedious, the additional parts theoretically can result in higher maintenance costs, etc. In the end, I just decided that it wasn't worth it and opted for the cleaner 5127.

Both pieces are amazing for sure. In the end, it will be simply a matter of which smiles at you the most. Can't go wrong either way in this instance!

5127 is the futureproof classic
5146 i'm not sold on...

Should you ever need to shift one of them the calatrava might be easier and also at a price closer to what you paid...

you can't go wrong with either though

If you can spend the extra 5146 is a classic Patek and unless you paying less then retail the Calatrava you will be waiting a long time for to get your money back.

5127. Something odd about the 5146.

Style and aesthetics the 5127 has it - there are other Patek complications than the 5146 that I'd look at if you can afford it.

Go with the 5127R. I think it's a timeless classic. The 5146R looks a little odd to me as well.

well, that is the case with 5146 too if you buy it at MSRP, it will be a long time till you get you money back

I have had the honour of owning & wearing the 5146J & G and cannot fault them. In fact at the time I loved them both.

Recently I have been looking at the 5127R.

And think that it is one of the most beautiful looking watch.

As an everyday wear with the screw down crown/caseback & shoulders it has to be the 5127.

As a complicated piece the 5146 would be my choice.

But going by your avatar, I think that you have already made your decision :)

Honestly, go look at both if you can in person. Pictures online don't do either justice. Try them each on.. look at them.. see which one you feel fits you best. Then enjoy!

I think the 5127 definitely looks a bit more modern but I can see most watch lovers will prefer a PP watch with complications.
Why not go for the 5296R which looks absolutely stunning and classy in rose gold!

Have you considered a 5134? Price point is between the 5127 and 5146. The 5134 is a GMT watch which features a dual time zone complication. It is thinner than the 5146, so perhaps a little more dressy, but it is also a tool watch due to the nature of the complication so it has a casual aspect to is as well.

Calendar...by far! I even like the actual case better

Im actually not much of a PP fan, but I like the set up of the calendar, date, moon, power reserve, date and arabic numbers on this model. This is one of those few 'busy' watches that work really well!

5206 is an awesome looking watch as well, have you considered that one?

dont' know which is which but i have no use for a moon phase and do not want to spend more than 30 seconds setting a watch....
