JLC MUT Steel Perpetual vs Patek 5146

Hi everyone. I have a silver dial MUT perpetual in steel. I love the watch for its looks, feel and value. That said I've always wanted a wg/slate dial Patek 5146. The Patek is simply beautiful. Is it worth selling the JLC and kicking in another $10k, or just keep the JLC and be happy? Curious what people would do when facing this choice...

I have 5146R and while it's no perpetual the finishing on the Movement alone compared to the JLC is worth it IMO. That said I think the JLC is a great watch and I am partial to the black dial with the fully gold rotor. Do the trade I think you will be happy. Plus the Calatrava deployment clasp is a marvel on its own.

By the way this model has the gold rotor. They are doing in other models not just black dial.

I would look at the black dial version of the JLC. It's a personal thing but, despite the finishing, I still look at the 5146 and think "meh".

I am a huge JLC fan but I would definitely spring for the 5146. The annual calendar is very similar and its a Patek!

Steel vs gold, annual vs perpetual, one adjustment pusher vs 3(?). I think 5146 is a bit sportier because of luminiscent marks but steel JLC can go as a formal daily watch and boutique version with white dial can be easily dressed down on weekends using less formal strap.

Finishing of 5146 beats JLC MUT Perpetual and the power of these two brands is incomparable, but we are talking about 14,5k watch versus ... how much? 30-35k?

In fact I like both, these references are so different, perfect and work for everything and even may compliment each other.

I'd choose the JLC, that dial is really great

It's a pretty even fight. JLC is a fantastic brand, the watch looks great, and it would be way more complicated at a fraction of the price. It also is a bit of the connoisseur's choice, so it does say something interesting about the owner.

Still, there's just something special about a PP, especially side by side. I would probably lean Patek, if I could swing it.

5146 for me, the JLC tone-on-tone look doesn't do it for me

JLC has long been known for their movements and a SS perpetual calendar is a great value watch.

On the other hand, the Patek 5146 is an absolute beauty and secondary market pricing has come down quite a bit over the past 2 years. If you can add an extra $10K to the 5146 price, you are looking at a 3940J, a very classic Patek perpetual calendar.
