Anybody here prefer a Grand Seiko GMT over a GMT2?
Something about the GS GMT sbge001 is attracting me to it over a gmt2.
(Photo is from the web) I currently have an explorer2 and 16610lv. Someday I'd like to also own a 16710 or 116710 to complete the land, air, sea collection. Somehow the off he radar-ness of the GS is intriguing me though. Sent from my XT1096 using Tapatalk |

No,
I'd add a black GMT 16710 or 116710.

I absolutely love that GS.
Saw one in person at the new Seiko store in NYC. - Much better lume including on the bezel. - more accurate movement - larger size - equal or better finishing. - no PCLs Despite those things, the Rolex GMT is an icon and it would be really hard for me to choose the GS over it. Also, the sweep of the spring drive is mesmerizing.

While everything on that watch is likely finished at a higher level....I love the design on rolex professional watches and in most cases dislike the aesthetic on GS. Also found them to sit high and somewhat uncomfortable on my wrist.

Definitely a nice watch. Was looking to get it as a unassuming watch to wear anywhere. Tried it on at a boutique and definitely nicer than photos show.

No. I bet GS are great watches, but I like very few of their designs.

A lovely watch, but between the two I'd go for the Rolex GMT, although I do love GS, I actually have a GS Quartz dress watch on my wrist right now.

if a Grand Seiko GMT, i'd surely go for the SBGM021 or the SBGJ001:
SBGM021 or SBGJ001 if the spring drive is a "must", then, i would go for the SBGE005 over the one the first post above in a heartbeat: |

No...but that is a good looking watch.
The GMT is one of my favorite references, so I can't go against it. |

Thanks for the input. In the end, I suppose my mind was already made. I pulled the trigger today. Hence the profile pic change. :-)

I'd take GS over Rolex for any like for like Steel watch but don't like the SBGE001 too much. I'd go for the dressier Hi-Beat or SD GMT's.

No
No and worst of all I know I am wrong A friend of mine has a grand seiko and I agree they are well made But as long as it has the word seiko on the dial I will never pay more than a few hundred euro for such a watch I don't want a grand timex either, even if this timex would make a great watch It doesn't have to say Rolex because I have and had watches that as good as nobody knows so it's not snobbery

I have both...
The Seiko is an amazing watch, keeps time like you won't believe and for me it is an easier GMT watch... Set the GMT hand to GMT, read off the inner 24 hour dial (Rolex does not have this) Then set the bezel to the country you are travelling to AND the Seiko bezel does half hour time changes which the Rolex does not do. All good... BUT The steel ring around the Seiko bezel is delicate, I have plenty of dings on my Seiko Bezel, where as the Rolex is bomb proof So if I had to pick only one I would pick.. BOTH. Rolex because it is bomb proof and Seiko for every thing else. Do you need an amazingly accurate watch with a really good GMT function or a bomb proof Rolex ?? Not really helping much am I ?? They are both absolutely beautiful, tough decision only you can make.. Cheers PS I'm not considering cost here, Rolex $ = 2 x Seiko $ (I paid $8 for the Rolex and $4 for the Seiko in Oz) Just looking at functionality Cheers |

Spot on, Cru!
I have been seriously thinking about adding a GS to my small collection of GMTs. I own a tt GMT-C, BLNR, two Omega SMP GMT, B&M dual time, and Pam 88. I flipped a EXPII 42 Polar last year, kinda miss it. So instead of acquiring another EXPII I'd like my next GMT to be one of these - SBGJ005, SBGJ013 or SBGM021, in that order. tick tock tick tock tick tock.....
