Rolex President - 18038 or 18238???

I'm hoping some of you good folks will weigh in as I have a few questions.

I am within hours/days of pulling the trigger on one of these. I originally thought I'd get a YG Oysterquartz and tried it on and really liked it, but for the same price I can get a 18038 and for a little more I can get the 18238. I think I'd rather stick with automatics as I have sensitive hearing so I'm worried the Oysterquartz tick will drive me nuts and I like the proper president bracelet more.

Question 1: Between the 18038 and 18238, I know the 238 has the double quick set, but is the bracelet any different? Is the case?

Question 2: Is there a weight or center link difference between the 18038 and 18238? I am paranoid about bracelet stretch.

Question 3: Is it totally worth the extra few $k to get a decade newer 238?

I'm leaning heavily towards really going for it with the 18238 but any other info to support that decision will make my choice a lot easier :)

Thanks!

No. Same.

Question 2: Is there a weight or center link difference between the 18038 and 18238? I am paranoid about bracelet stretch.

No, same bracelet. It changed in 118238

Question 3: Is it totally worth the extra few $k to get a decade newer 238?

Depends on condition of the watches. I have seen pristine 18038s

I'm leaning heavily towards really going for it with the 18238 but any other info to support that decision will make my choice a lot easier :)

Once again, it all depends on condition of both pieces.

Not so sure that solid links are any less prone to stretch as the metal contact in the places that wear is the same either way. I'd lean towards the newer watch and keep the bracelet clean.

Thanks so much for your thoughts, good to know if I come across an 18038 I won't be giving up much for a bit less $$$.

If you are planning a lifetime keeper for whichever you buy, factor in the longer time you'll have parts availability for the 18238's movement.

Also a good point, one of the reasons I was put off getting the Oysterquartz 19018...

Thanks!

You got some incorrect answers.
1: yes the case has a thinner profile on a 238 and is lighter, also more cut out on the inside.
Post 1995 bands were slightly heavier a few grams only.

2: same basic design, if you clean it it will last 30 years.

3: it's all about condition. Some 18038 have better bands than 238's. Save the extra cash and buy a 2k datejust to wear as well. IMHO.

Great choice! I would have to agree with everyone...it's all about the condition especially the bracelet.
