Shock news…someone who has worked for 40 years has more money than those who worked for 4 years

Let’s see how they would / will cope with 12% of the workforce unemployed, 20% inflation, 17% mortgage interest rates, 100k of people per year got degrees v 400k people today, negative equity etc. etc.

It’s just on hold, so might not even sell. You see this a lot on MODA

This watch will be more or less retail in due time

CRM is having somewhat of a fire sale in their private chat. The writing is on the wall.

That’ll teach them not to buy at 51.

Stopped by AD today to reiterate my interest on a grail watch. Gonna be some more time. Is there a possibility that Daytonas will be in the $18-20K range?

Probably and why not? Their prices are falling every week. When crazy hype is over or when the mass public moves on to something else it will be even lower

I’ve been following the above with interest but am based in UK not US. The overall trends look similar but pricing in the U.K. does look consistently higher. It’s hard to get any clarity on comparison due to all the recent exchange rate movements but is that a consistent long term trend that the used market in the U.K. is a bit more expensive?

5980 mint for 185 among others.

No DD40 but those are at retail right now if I recall.

Yup. UK is more expensive because of the double whammy of brexit and currency. There's essentially less inventory now in the UK because other countries can take advantage of the weak GBP and buy watches for export, brands are happy to allocate more new watches away from the UK if they can sell the same watch in USD, and the UK no longer has tax free access to inventory across the rest of the EU.

I give kudos to posting the actual sales receipt but it shows the insanity over the past 18months!

"Hey, I got a mass-produced, non-rare, non-handfinished, still in production product for 10k. Would you like to take it off my hands for a tidy 200% (!!!) profit for me?"

It is kind of funny, starting at 35, ending up at 18. However, I note, that the seller made a profit of about 80% in about a year and a half — not bad still!!

So watch prices in UK are more expensive because watch prices in the UK are cheap…?

And how does Brexit affect prices…

5712 full set recently serviced for 88k. Down we go…

Speaking of 5712… you can’t make this garbage up: another seller is selling a BNIB 5712 for 119k. He said these were going for 225k early in the year, and in the process of going up. Another poster asked where does he see this, and guess the seller’s answer: “Can’t I just be optimistic?”.

Lmaoo I hope all these charlatans get burned. Nothing wrong with honest greys, but spewing bs is something else.

AP RO prices are also nuts, too. Those will probably drop even more than PP. Your icon was what prompted me to say that.

Never forget this quote from the CEO of AP:

Quote:
What do you think of the phenomenon of excessive speculation that affects a handful of brands?
It's a double-edged sword. This is new at Audemars Piguet insofar as four to five years ago none of our watches were worth more pre-owned than their retail price.

Personally I feel the market will continue to drop. It was hyper inflated and being in the crypto world I honestly believe there was tonnes of young crypto millionaires pumping up the prices.

Now crypto is crashing hard like nothing we've seen - none of those guys are interested in buying watches at all. In fact I know a bunch of crypto millionaires sold all their RMs, Rolex, AP etc.....because they are trying to recoupe their crypto losses.

What I do know for sure is that watches will NOT be going up in price anytime soon. No way in the world. If your a collector and real watch lover there is no rush to buy anything.

I think there is another 20% drop coming by March/Feb next year. MODA prices are coming down weekly on pieces and they dont even move that quick.

Very interesting read about the results of the Swiss auction season: https://watchesbysjx.com/2022/11/edi...mber-2022.html

TLDR; Prices are down. Many lots passed. Exceptional watch, good results.
