Banned Member Trying To Buy A Watch ...

Greetings all.

Yesterday, I was contacted by an active member interested in a watch I have listed for sale.
The conversation immediately moved to email since I could not reply to his DMs.

We exchanged a few emails and now I see he's banned on the forum.
I noticed when 1) the original PM he sent disappeared and 2) when I searched his username - Armis - to research his history and what he was posting about.

This is obviously a red-flag.
But I am sure there is more I should be aware of?
As a newcomer to the forum, I am very green on the nuances of what goes on around here.

Thank you in advance.

I'd avoid any further contact with them. How do you envision this turning out well?

OP within the first phase of contact you’ve seen a huge red flag.

Isn’t that enough? Forget he/she/it existed and be super vigilant if you shared your email.

Good luck with the sale

I don't and I have no intentions of moving forward.
I was hoping for some insight on what possibly happened or maybe some things to look out for in general.

The email was red flag #1 to me: zenas4280@gmail.com
Although, I still have friends with AOL emails like bongsNbeer97@aol.com so I engaged.

The name coming up on the correspondences was "John Miller".

He just tried this with me. His profile says banned but yet he is still contacting us. Link to see his trade collection redirects you to a false sign in for the forum.

I got the same link.
I was thrown off quite a bit when I was logged in and it was asking me to log in... then I noticed the domain was all sorts of off.

Didn't log in again but also changed all of my login info
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

But why?
I had a strange encounter.
I am asking for some insight from more experienced users.
Sharing my experiences for others to chime in and learn.

Above is another user who had a similar experience.
Unsure how the "whole thread" is "sketchy"...

Sounds like this guy is attempting to get members to log in through the false log in page. He then steals your log in details and hacks your account so he can scam other members by offering watches for sale under accounts with good histories. Does that seem a reasonable interpretation?

This is precisely what I was hoping to learn and makes perfect sense.

… unfortunately for him, I don’t have “good history” here: only lack of history.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Thank you.

I received a similar TRF private message on January 7 for a watch that I listed but had been sold for some time, same member and email.

I tried to respond to him on TRF, but when I received a “user can’t accept private messages” notice I moved on.
