A special incoming

A few weeks ago I picked this up on an online auction. No model, serial shown and just a few low quality pics. It was also listed “not working, as is”.

Today I walked out my door and saw the box sitting there a day before expected. I think I was more excited to get this one than any of my new watches as I wasn’t completely sure what I’d get. Well to my surprise when I pulled it from the box it was ticking away! Pulled the crown to set it and it’s keeping time although not sure how well yet.

6 o’clock shows a legible 9xx,xxx serial and 12 o’clock shows brevet 6305 42 with the “5” crossed out.

Let me know your thoughts on the find!

Well, it looks authentic which should be a load off your mind. All the pix seem to have a 'golden' hue so I can't tell what the metal is. I'm guessing solid gold and if so, that's really cool. Obviously, it needs cosmetic work and a proper bracelet (or really nice strap) but it's a really nice piece esp. the red date wheel. Keep us posted.

BTW, what year is it?

Yeah sorry for the picture tint. Was excited to get it opened up and just took the pics under my kitchen lights. It’s all SS bezel and case. I know very little of the watch but it seems to be 1953. I’m sure there’s some experts among us that may share some info on it.

It's very nice. I'm not a vintage guy but seeing something like yours is a rare treat. Love the hands and hour markers too.

Mark

Nice find.

It was not unusual for Rolex to line out a reference number and stamp another when using like-case backs.
