Police Officer Edgar Flores was shot and killed during a traffic stop yesterday on Candler Road, near I-20, at approximately 5:00 pm.

During the course of the traffic stop, the suspect fled on foot with Officer Flores in pursuit. The man opened fire on Officer Flores, fatally wounding him, as he continued to flee.

The man was later shot and killed after he shot a police canine that located him hiding behind a nearby business. The canine was critically wounded.

Officer Edgar had served with the DeKalb County Police Department for 18 months.

Godspeed and we feel the worse for the senseless shooting by this perpetrator. Officer Flores was engaged, and days away from 25th birthday.

This deadly act is hard to accept - and it comes on the heels of more shootings in the same County.

As an update, the K9, a 7-year-old shepherd named Indi, was taken to a local veterinarian for treatment and rushed into surgery. He was stable by this afternoon.

Our law enforcement officers put their lives on the line every single day to give us our freedom. We owe these fine men and women our lives. I hate to hear these stories - this should not be a part of a civilized nation.

I live in the Atlanta area and when you turn on the news in the morning all you hear about is shootings, murders, carjackings and home invasions. These gangs and young males are out of control! Law enforcement has to step up and civil Libertarians be damned. It's time to get this situation under control because people and police officers are being killed all over the country for no reason!
