i know its not in the poll but- Explorer 1016.
when i think of a classically beautiful, minimalist & timeless wristwatch, 1016 embodies all that in a way none can. it is as close to perfection as can get.

The modern 36mm is by far the nicest, imo.

Voted 124270. I have the 114270 and I love wearing it, but the modern 36 photographs so well that it somehow renders the previous edition lacking.

The real question is whether I upgrade to the modern and keep the previous, or move it on? I did just pick up a 14060M, which will satisfy that 5 digit charm….

Good to see it getting some love as the 39mm Explorer is my favourite Rolex that I’ve never owned.
It's an amazing watch and with the short production run even more special. After the sub it was the only Rolex I had an interest in and only in the 39mm.

My opinion may change, however, after I've seen the new 40mm model in real life. I think a wider bracelet could be a great change -- it certainly works on the Submariner -- although on the other hand I think Rolex made a big mistake by moving the word "Explorer" to the top of the watch face. I'm sure they did that for the sake of tradition, but in my opinion it ruins the balance.
I agree with you on the position of the name.

I think it looks amazing with the negative space with the name on the lower text rows. I also love the matt black face which is just a stunning imho.

This is the first I've realized the new 40 has 21mm lug widths.

The Explorer I seems to be the one reference from Rolex where a decent amount of people swap out straps and 20mm would be nice.

I voted the 40mm only because I love the experience of buying new from AD and the 36 is too small for me.

For me 39mm is the one. The 40mm could take the vote but 21 lug width is very irritating.

Side by side of the 36 and 40 from Worn and Wound. The 40 looks weird IMO.

The 40mm. I wish it had been around years ago when I got my 39. The 39 just looked a tad too small on my wrist - even tried it twice!

I have a Sub now, but a 40mm Explorer a few years back would've saved me a lot of watch-swapping!

Just picked up a 39, 2016 with box and papers. I have owned most models and this watch really hits all the right marks. New favorite of all time.

Funny how the 39mm is so popular here when in the real world it was a poor seller and struggles on the used market. Think you guys are just too ashamed to admit that you really dig a smaller watch.

I love my 224270. I don't get the whole "proportions are so off" crowd. I feel it wears smaller than a 41 DJ as well. Perfect watch.

Side note I have worn it non-stop for several months and the watch has only gained 3 seconds - truly mind blowing accuracy.

The 114270 is the perfect blend of size, vintage charm, and modern upgrades.

I think a 224270 with a matte dial would be my alltime favorite. Until then, Ill stick with my 39mm MK2.

Definitely the modern 36mm with easylink. Can be purchased at retail price on the secondary market. Best value in a modern Rolex

Which one to choose depends on the day. I’ve tried on the 124270 and 114270 and both are great. I think all things considered, can’t beat a brand new 124270. If forced to the larger size, I do like the 39 better than the 40, hidden gem there for those who want the bigger size IMO.

Well I guess I sort of fulfilled my own prophecy. Purchased this 14270 blackout, had it serviced and the crystal needed a change so I opted for a new AR crystal.

I was at the AD a couple days ago. Following up after expressing interest in an explorer 40mm. SA intimated that the two tone 36 was available. I told him I felt it was a woman’s watch. He seemed surprised. I feel a lot of women are looking for a larger watch and seems like they prefer a TT watch. My wife has mentioned liking the TT watches for their versatility matching jewelry.

So according to your logic, does that mean one of Rolex’s most iconic watches ever, a 36mm two-tone DJ, is also a woman’s watch?
