Advice on replacing case back pls...
Hi everyone, I have a 15000 with a case back that has some nicks, dings, and damage on the the outer hinges/ridges so I bought a nice authentic fairly mint case back on the net which says 15000 inside. My question is will this fit exactly on my watch? I know they produced 15000 in the 80's and I was worried that thru those years. Although the case back I bought is for a 15000 I am just worried that it won't fit as well as the original that came with the case thinking that these cases are produced in pairs at a certain time and year and would have some slight changes if any thru the years. Can anyone with experience with changing his/her case back please comment on this. And lastly, if I do replace the case back is it a must to change the gasket as well? Thanks

As Peter has said it should be fine, but replace the gasket too.
It would also be a good idea to get it tested for water tightness by a watchmaker afterwards. Rolex cases from evidence seen over the years are not made individually. Some maybe (Platinum possibly as they are not made hand over fist), but steel cases are made by the bucket load. It is not unusual for a Sub 5513 to have a 5512 case back and it has even been seen on some models the original model number blanked out and another stamped in its place, where that is all that was available at the time. Rolex also change case backs at service if necessary, so it should be fine. |
