Decision to make

Okay, I am a huge Breitling fan and currently collecting 42mm Superocean 's. But feel I need to add a chronograph version to my collection other than the Navitimer as I have one.

So, I have narrowed it down to two. One is a new Aviator 8 43mm, black dial and metal bracelet, the other is a thicker 44 SO chronograph. My hang up for me is the Aviator is thinner and has day/ date 100 m water resistance, the SO is thicker and only has a date but 500m water resistance. Also on a bracelet. I love the Superocean, dial and water resistance. It speaks to me loudly, if fact shouting even screaming! But concerned about the thickness. I would appreciate any input regarding which one you would pick and if a thick watch presents any problems for you. Do not have a thick watch so just wondering.

It's true that the SOH is on the thicker side. My gut tells me that it won't ultimately bother you too much given how much you seem to like the watch. It's not like it's out of control thick compared to Aviator. I personally like the Aviator better, but it's a very different look and personal preference. Either one is a winner, congrats!

Thanks, I think you are correct. I really like the Aviator, it's only the water resistance that concerns me. I'm in water all the time. My AD advises that unless the crown/pushers are screw down, it's not to swim in no matter what rating is on the dial.

I think with your current collection of SO's, you really have no shortage of watches for the water. I prefer the thinner watches, as I own a few that are 14-15mm thick and they no longer get much wrist time. I agree the SO is the perfect combo of water resistance and thin case ( I believe around 12.5). In short, just me, but I would go thinner.

Get the SO chrono. I can’t say enough good things about mine. This watch is very comfortable on the rubber mesh strap. I’ve got the mesh bracelet as well and haven’t used it in a year or so. I also got the blue Econyl Nato strap from Breitling which looks great.

It seems the Superocean chronograph is discontinued except for the 42mm. So.... I either have to buy used or the one from the AD to get one. The one the AD has is 44mm.
A good point has been made, I have the water resistance covered. The day/ date on the Aviator 8 is growing on me and I can get it new with a discount and warranty. I think I will go that route. Thanks for the replies. There much appreciated.

Can't wait to see what you end up buying, Wayne. Either way you can't go wrong here and it sounds like you're pretty close to a decision.

Yes pretty close to making a decision. Wheels turning. My AD has offered to loan me one to wear for a week or so to see if I like it or not. I may take him up on it. I will post when I decide.

It is a real beauty. The green dial is amazing and I love the new bullet bracelet

I took a Glycine to my AD yesterday for service. Checked out some new Chronomats as he was putting them in the display case. First time with one in hand. Very nice design. The look even better in person. A VERY well done watch. Another step in the right direction for George!
